Just bought a set of what I thought were genuine BMW 168 X5 20" wheels , they were fairly dirty but had good michelin m+s tyres on the front 6 mm & Toyo one of the rears  5-6 mm , the other thread bare . Gave them a good clean but only one has BMW stamps on , others have no part no s on , are they worth restoring or only fit for the scrap ?
No cracks , or chips but a bit of kerb damage plus some one has sprayed them black ! I think the tyres are worth what I payed for them but not sure if to get them restored .
Any ideas ?

if they look fine then why not, they will look as good fitted to your car as oem wheels

I was told about a programme on TV about fake car parts claiming to be OEM particularly BMW. They talked about airbags and wheels, there was an expert on who could not tell the difference! The fake items were all of an inferior quality and some had safety implications. Another programme I saw previously, Watchdog or similar covered BMW wheels cracking. I had a 325 M Sport, found a crack in the wheel after a long motorway journey, lucky to get away with that!! I don't know if my cracked wheel was genuine or fake but it made me think. Don't know if you are aware of this and don't mean to offend in any way, just felt I should mention it.

As long as they look OK and there are no signs of buckling or cracks you should be OK.  There were issues a few years back with 'pattern' alloys not being up to the job, but no recent reports of incidents.  If in doubt you can always run a dial gauge on the two bead edges of the rims.

ROTA wheels are made in the Philippines.  Some mixed reviews about them if you do a search on your chosen search engine.  Will depend upon type and how they have been treated etc.

Only other potential problem to watch for is I thought some of the after market wheels where a lot heavier than OE, so if mixing them it may cause problems with handling etc ??
