I've come across a 3.0d that no doubt will need a new box / rebuild in the near future. 

I wonder if a fluid / filter change would extend the life? 

Can anyone recommend a company that could assist with a rebuild / refurb?

Fluid and filter may help but by no means a guarantee of issue avoidance. Rich at barkers motor works in haslemere is good geographically . He owns an E53 - I trust him.

Chris plumber in aldershot has been recommended to me as an Indy also.

Can't recommend a specific gearbox specialist in that area but would advise caution re what is on offer as what's on offer can vary especially in terms of what service refurb and or recon exchange consist of.
