Question about Wipers and Spec Meanings.

Post by Grommit » Sun Sep 22, 2013 8:33 pm

Hi, I've got a couple of questions that being a newbie I could do with some assistance with.
Image
Firstly do these wipers look as though they are parked a bit high? If so is repositioning them simply a matter of undoing a nut and repositioning them on the splines like on my old Cortina, or does it involve the computer?

Secondly I used this  website ( http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html ) to look up the original spec of my car and found a load of things on it that I have no idea what they are.
An explanation of these terms  would be very much appreciated:-

"Selection of COP relevant vehicles
Extra package, EU-specific
BMW Assist
High speed synchronisation
Retailer Directory Europe
Delete cross-pattern operation
Control unit COP
Transport protection package"

Can't believe the cup holder & spare wheel were optional!

Anyway thanks for any help  :)

Cup holder and spare wheel were not optional, at least not on mine!  The new models have Runflat tyres hence no spare - though I still have 4 cup holders.... ;D

In terms of your other queries.....

No pic so can't check on your alignment.
EU specific package will be for all the specific needs for EU approved vehicles.
BMW Assist is a subscription system allowing you to call BMW Connected Services for breakdown assistance, or accident recovery etc.  It was about £130 a year.
High speed sync is probably for faster data rates as used by UK mobile telephone networks and would go with Telematics.
Retailer Directory is a book of all EU Dealers supplied with the handbooks etc.
Can't help with the next two, but the last one is used on all cars that are being shipped and locks down certain functions and air suspension (if fitted) and covers the car in plastic for it's journey from Spartanburg to the UK.

That help?

That wiper 'parked' position is way too high.  They should be pretty much horizontal when parked.  How far up the screen is the top position? It could be an issue with the arm adjustment or someone has moved them on the splines for some odd reason.

Piccie below is of my former '05 E53........

Definitely way too high.

Just adjust them at the mounting point. One but and shift em down. Then see how you get on.
