Insurance renewal sorted again....

Post by Jamee » Fri Sep 20, 2013 10:34 am

Had my renewal from Chris Knott for the X5 at £600 which is nearly £200 up on last yr, even tho, no claims or nothing.
Chaucer gave me £467 with same benifits, so rang Knott back up and they agreed to price match at £467, so happy days.
Churchill and direct line wanted over £800!!!!... taking the piss!
I dont understand why the X5 is so expensive to insure, it's not exactly a performance vehicle, my BMW 330 clubsport coupe which was tuned to over 300 bhp was only £300 to insure with all the mods declared...

Unfortunately a lot of E53s have been stolen and not recovered (in certain parts of the UK it was the No1 nicked car, and mirrors are a particular favourite in London) plus replacement parts cost an arm and both legs.

As Richard said it comes down mainly to the price of parts and the fact that it is one of the most stolen vehicles.

Direct Line wouldnt even touch the car unless I had a tracker fitted and even then their quote was more than others!

Same system owned under the banner RBS insurance. you will notice that the sites are exactly the same except for the colours .

I found that Admiral gave me the best quotes under their multicar discounts.

Out of curiosity do people, it a tracker really worth it ? ... cos i am paying about £150 yearly subscription

Some insurers insist on a tracker, but personally I would fit one for peace of mind.  It also depends upon the type of system you install.  I pay a lot more than that!

Relatives had their Merc nicked after the house was broken into and the keys stolen, no tracker so never recovered - and probably in West Africa now.

I dunno about everyone else, but if my car gets nicked, I most certainly don't want it back! Who knows what they could have done with it, and problems that might rear their head later.

I was with Liverpool Victoria when I changed from my E60 530i to a X5 3.0d and they wouldn't touch me without a tracker so I cancelled and went to Swift cover who didn't ask about a tracker and were cheaper.
Since then people have said they don't require Trackers.
As mentioned above x5s are one of the most stolen cars ever.
Save the tracker premium and get GAP insurance, so you don't get the depreciation hit, or is gAP insurance a con too ??????

Can't say the premiums I've been quoted are any more or less than any other of the 4x4s we've owned before.

I heard all the horror stories about X5 theft figures and tracker requirements, but tbh neither have appeared to be an issue for us.

Mines due mid jan and getting quotes of around £250, that said I do have 10yrs no claims.  I also found it cheap with the misses as a named driver.

yeh the X5 is an expensive vehicle to insure , my RS with the mods is alot cheaper than my x5 , i think i pay £760 but then again im only 23 , full protected no claims , i think scotland in general has lower car theft stats than england as its the same with the RS i pay alot less than some boys that are 5+ years older than me on fairly standard cars
