Having the same problem with the heater/blower and noted X5LeMans comments from a previous post which are great. Ive stripped of the long carpet trim in the passenger and drivers foot well as per the internet websites (in reverse of the LHD models) but there's nothing there. See the attached picture.

Are you looking for the FSR - final stage resistor ? If so it on the drivers side - uk tucked right round the back of the heater unit. It just clips in position so no screws holding it in.

Pretty sure you're looking right at it - I made that mistake also. the plug with that 5 wires is my guess.

I was looking for the side with all the cooling pins on it - that bit is tucked into a hole in your air blower system - to aid cooling it I assume. 

You're looking for the back of it with the 5 pin plug.  I would have expected it to have screws also due to there being screw holes on the resistor, although that might just be because its a universal resistor.

It was an E46 I changed last week so may be slightly different.

Thanks both, I think youre right X5 ALN its the block with wires coming out of it. I'll give a go.
