Torque app on the mobile (finally gave it a try on the X5)

Post by dpbayly » Fri Sep 06, 2013 9:26 pm

Just thought I'd share my experience with this little app, you need a little Bluetooth plug which you plug into your 16 pin diagnostic port then fire up the app then you have your self a great little code reader and if like me you go for the full app then you get loads extra live data info as well as extra features.

The little Bluetooth plug in is called an ELM327 i picked it up of eBay a few months back for about £6 delivered then the full app ( Ian Hawkins Tourqe pro) cost £2.95 that then gives you the capability of reading and clearing codes as well as a heap of useful live data for tracking down problems.

Here's a few screen shots:

On the phone opening screen with menu

In live data mode with on screen dials

My phone is the Asus Padfone 2 and with the handset I can slot it into the Padstation a 10.1" tablet and run it in tablet mode, here's how it looks on there:

Live data dials (you can customise them as you like)

You can run 7 screens and just flick between them here's one of both my upstream O2 sensors (bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 1) working perfectly in graph mode

Anyway just thought I'd share my thoughts and for the money its an awesome bit of kit, i use lots of diagnostic gear at work in my garage and this is so simple to use any one could use it.

I looked into this a few months back, while the torque app for the android operating system is around £5 the apple equivalent on the app store is nearer £60!

Cant remember the ipad apps name but its interface didn't look as nice as the torque app!

Do you have a link for the bluetooth plug you bought on eBay?

Think I will have a play myself. :)

So would the readings from this be able to tell the user if a car had been re-mapped?

I'm about to install the Andrive head unit which Torque can run on. They have also recommended BMWhat app as its BMW specific:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... l&hl=en_GB

Has anyone had any experience with this as the £38 price tag is putting me off atm.

[/quote]

But can you tell if it has been remapped as presumably the readings would be immediately obviously different to an unmapped car? (on the basis that you know the relevant readings for an unmapped car to be able to make the comparison?)

ive downloaded the bmwhat app but dont have bluetooth adaptor. il get one off ebay and give views if anyone is interested in the software.

Edit: scrap that, having looked on their website it says that for coding etc the E53, I need a d-can cable rather than a bluetooth obd scanner.

Tried this the Torque app today. Cool live data and it found a fault code P0401 which it cleared and didnt come back. Only problem is on the Vehicle test result screen it says my "ECU isn't compatible with $#06" or something like that?
