Hi all

I was wondering if anyone on here has had their rear bushes replaced and what were the symptoms that revealed themselves...

I have had my front bushes replaced as I had steering wheel judder at certain speeds and when I took it to my local Indy he showed the travel of the wheels under low braking(quite an eye opener) :blink:

However I have a vibration coming through the chassis now,more noticeable at lower speeds accelerating gently  in the lower gears..

Is this a symptom of worn bushes???

Gearbox is fine and shifts as it should and no un usual noises apart from when braking I gat a squeal from the rear but did notice the pads are close to the limit..

Will get Indy to look at it later in the week but thought I would try and get a heads up first from you guys...

How much roughly should replacement bushes be if they are gone???

Hi John.

Hmmm may be worn bushes. If its sub frame bushes then you'd get a clunk at low speeds. Can tell by putting it into drive with brake applied and then put it into reverse. Normally audible clunk when doing this.

Replacements can be had for £80 for a set of 4 on eBay but aren't genuine. OE ones from dealer set you back £50 odd each and Powerflex poly ones will be £290 for a set of 4. Then there's the labour or hire the tool yourself and DIY it.

I dont have any clunking etc. and having looked under the X and found the bushes they seem ok to me..but hey I'm no mechanic!!!

I'm hoping that its a tyre issue as I have an RFT on one rear and normal on the other and both are close to the limit.

Fronts are both Michelin diaramis with 4mm ish remaining- all on when I bought it...

Gonna get local Indy to check bushes tomorrow but he's also given me a good price on 4x tyres and laser alignment..

Will report on findings/ solutions........

The rft may well be causing the vibration so will be good to get that replaced with the other side in the first instance.

Quick update..

Indy took it for a spin with me as passenger and confirmed deffo not bushes-phew

He thought I was being a bit too paranoid,but did feel the said vibration(the car is still only a month old to me and you tend to only hear the bad things on these forums)!!!

However he came to the same conclusion as Raj and tyres seem to be the guilty part-the rears are shot..

Having four new tyres fitted Wednesday with a full laser alignment so hopefully all will be sorted.....

What tyres have you decided to go for?

Unfortunately funds don't allow me to splash out on premium brands...

I drive the car a bit like a girl really and bought it to tow my caravan so performance tyres aren't top of my list..

I managed to get 4x Nankang SS5's and laser alignment for £470- this allows me to tick a few other things on my list that I want doing...

Repair faulty amp channels on RCM..
Full detail..
Alloy refurb..etc"....

Well tyres are fitted and the vibration has gone  :yell: :yell:

Couldn't get wheel alignment done because the necessary bolts were seized and corroded :'(

Liberal amounts of anti corrosion oil has been applied so taking it back in a week when hopefully they will come free!!!!!

Agreed otherwise I do remember someone previously having a bit of a nightmare with stripped bolts etc.

I think it eas Stormingmike that had one of his adjusting bolts sheer off during a 4 wheel alignment.

Yep fingers crossed..

My Indy did seem very confident they'd be ok in a week or so..

At least if they do shear off its his responsibility...

Did the alignment work out?

Yup it was me

The cam bolts/nuts on the rear swing arms were a right pig....and cost me a new swing arm. The nut clean sheared off leaving it undriveable as from then on the bolt wouldn't come out.

The steering arms were messed up too requiring both rack and ball joint end. This was diagnosed as corrosion due to perhaps a previous owner (or the garage used) having used a torch on them to slacken  and then not cleaned up or protected
