Thinking about a new x5 - new modell

Post by kenniff » Tue Sep 03, 2013 12:03 am

Its a long time since I've been on this forum - used it a lot before and shortly after I bought my current x5 e70 35d msport.

That was 3.5 years ago and I've liked it so much I'm thinking about getting a new one in December.

As I have 35d, there's no direct replacement... My options are 30d in December or possibly feb for the 40d. I'd appreciate any discussion on how my 59 plate 6 speed 35d compares with the current 30d, as I'm told by the stealers that the new 30d is quicker than the current. Also comments on the current 30 vs the current 40 would be welcome.

I'll be going for an msport with sunroof and cameras plus upgraded stereo and darkened glass. Trying to figure out what all the telematics options are...

Finally, I bought a dog rack for my current car, sturdy and good fit, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience of the luggage separator as a dog guard. Pics make it look a bit flimsy and with quite a big space at either side. Dog is a Dalmatian btw. Thanks in advance to any contributors.

It'll be allright in the end. If it isn't allright it isn't the end

The 30d is now a great engine but it is still missing a turbo!

Only you really know if you think this could be important.

Are you considering any other car.

I drove the new RRS last week and it is very impressive, as is the Porsche cayenne.

I thought about the RRS... and drove one and thought it very nice (but then it was the dynamic autobiography so it should be.

Difficulty with RRS is that you can't get one until May next year... 6 months after my current PCP contract finishes. That means funding the balloon and running the 4 year old beamer for another 6 months - no payments but it'll carry on depreciating....

Interesting. I tried 3 dealers (2 North of the border and one in London) plus one internet car broker and all of them said May - though one indicated that it could move forward to April but no promises. This was in the last 2 weeks.

I will try a couple more as its a lovely car....

Tried 2 more. One said May, the other said May - unless you dont want a panoramic sunroof as they are expecting a final top up allocation for Dec delivery but have been told that orders including pano sunroof cannot be handled......

Try Harwoods in edenbridge although I am now wondering if I got confused and it was the F type I was told I could have this year.

I did both on the same day'

Hi,

I have the combined boot cover/luggage net. Perfect for a mutt and you can roll it down when you are not using it, and its always in the car and means you can use the 7 seat option without having to dismantle a dog guard then find some where to put it.
Unless your mutt deliberately looks for the gap and sticks its trumpet through it, I cant see it being a problem unless you mutt has a neck like a giraffe. The whole kit is quite wide  and keeps snouts at bay. I have a bernesse mountain dog and I find mine perfect.

I just bought a 40d, because I saw the pictures of the new one and didn't like the new one as it looks like an overgrown X3which i think is pig ugly. Also most models have a 7 year life span and by now most/all of the issues were sorted out + you get a good discount. I don't believe there are engine changes for the new one.  40d with the 8 speed box is the  way fwd+ once its out of warranty you can chip it to be as fast as a 50 d .

Regards,

Nat

Hey kennif,

I know your pain! We have 2 Dalmatians and those white hairs are a pain in the ass! I've tried the dog guards but they just get everywhere!

We had a box custom made from these guys below. It's made of thick plastic so helps keep most of the hairs contained. Better than the cage type boxes they sell at pets at home

thanks for the replies... I might spec the luggage net as its not v expensive and if it fails my old dog rack might fit....

Not sure I fancy the plastic crate but thanks for the suggestion.

Rang Edenbridge last week re the RRS... got put on hold then my name taken and a promise of a call back. Still waiting :)
