Thinking of buying X5 40D

Hello Everybody, Looking for abit of advice here on the X5 40D M Sport
I am thinking of buying an X5 40D. My current car is a 2011 Audi A4 Quattro.
Looking for a White one 35-40k without third row seating and with cameras.
I do like the look of this one:
http://www.approved.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmw ... e_ASC|list
The wheels are 19" and IMHO i don't think look as good as 20" but in reality they are the better wheels to have for comfort and snow etc.. also a little cheaper. It also has the M Sport suspension deletion on it, will the handling still be good if it doesn't have the M Sport Suspension. I am guessing the ride will be very comfortable and smooth with no M sport suspension and the 19" wheels.
I heard something about pumping the tyre pressure up to the highest pressure load (5 adults + luggage) ? to reduce wear on the edge of the tyres. is this true ?
How many miles on a set of tyres do you get on average, i have heard people saying that can get 30-40k on one set.
Can Run flats be repaired ?
When i come to change the tyres should i stay with run flats or put on normal tyres ?
What MPG are people getting and i am also curious on how much they cost to fill up from empty ?
Do owners on here use the V Power diesel ? does it make a big difference ?
Has anybody had any experience on remapping a 40D and what was the results and who was it done by, Is the ECU locked ?
Do they all come standard with Sat-Nav and Xenons ?
It also has "Comfort Seats Front" can anybody tell me what these are ?
Is there anything to look out for or to avoid when before buying ?
I am slightly worried if i buy one it will drop thousands of pounds because the new model is coming out.
Sorry for all the questions, i just need to know all the information before i go ahead and buy one.
When i buy one i will stay a member on here and upload some pictures.
Thanks in advance

A lot of questions, but for what I know, Sat Nav is an option, and most important the 40d is awesome.

Hello and
A very good string of questions.....
M Sport delete will give a softer ride, and yes 19" wheels will give a softer ride. I have both 20" and 19" (for winter) and the 19's are more comfortable, but I prefer the 20" overall. Several folks in here have changed to non-runflats and prefer it. You will need either a spare tyre kit (can only be used on 5-seat) or a repair kit on board.
Run-flats can be repaired but not all manufacturers recommend it and not all tyre shops will do it. I have a repaired 20" on mine and it's done thousands of miles since.
My current set of tyres have getting on for 11k and have 4-5mm left. I prefer to change my tyres at 3mm for safety reasons.
Comfort Seats are simply sublime as they are MUCH more comfortable and have a greater range of adjustment than the Sport seats. The gallery for my X6 shows Comfort Seats.
I use supermarket fuel, always have and have never had a problem. Personally I think the use of 'super' fuels is overrated when performance again price against mpg is compared. It doesn't justify the higher price.
Jason@bwchiptune (a member here) runs a proper mapping shop and can do the job for you. He knows how to get into the ECU. Bear in mind that BMWs software system will lick up the remap and remove it when you have software upgrades done, so keep a backup copy.
HIDs yes, Satnav no. The latter is part of a £2.5k Communications Pack. Nav updates cost about £300 per year, need 3 DVDs and a licence key. The discs are cheap, the key outrageous and can only be used once and on your car.
Things to watch for are paint damage around the rear wheel arches - BMW now fit a plastic film, and peeling alloys. Also make sure that any car has has the 'Security Updates' applied - a software upgrade done late last year/early this.
And the 40d with the 8 speed transmission is a rocket ship......you'll love it.

Thank you for the replys you have made me feel allot more confident already
My mate has a garage and has serviced and repaired my tyres for 19 years now and i have owned Bmw's Mercedes Audi's the lot really, so he would service it and not do a software update and clear the remap.
I have had a look at that BW ChipTune but its all the way down in Middlesex over 200 mils away from me unfortunately.
I do agree with you there on changing the tyres at 3mm i do the same.
So the Comfort Seats are basically electric seats but with many settings which can be adjusted to your desire to get the maximum comfort ?
The one im looking at has the media package which includes the nav.
I did read about the stone chips around the wheels arches and it seems to be a known issue. Does anybody know why this happens ?
I will ensure before i buy one that Bmw fit the film, i have seen a few for sale with the film/plastic stuff on.
I also read about the lacquer peel on the alloys i will watch out for that, if i get 20" wheels should i use wheel cleaner on them or will it help wreck the wheel and peel the lacquer off ?
I certainly will buy an X5 from a main dealer so am i right they do software updates on them before the sale ?
Is the security update to prevent that key theft method ? I heard something about that, problem with some Audi's too.
Also what do you think of the white one in the link ?
Thanks for your time Richard

Iirc it cost c£130 to fill the car up with V power so a lot more than an A4!!
I found premium fuel was worth the extra because the economy did get better.

Christ ! It will last longer before a full refill again though. my A4 holds 64 litres and i can squeeze about £80 into it and i average 32mpg. I average 10000 miles a year.
I use V Power in my A4 2.0 TFSI (Petrol) had it remapped its 305 Bhp and does 0-60 in 5.5 but it is extremely tempting to go fast but i have been caught speeding far too many times now including France where i got a 750 quid fine ! so i have decided if i get a X5 then i can cruise around and a big 40D will be smooth and low revs.

Unfortunately even the 3-litre 40D has a fuel habit, and a serious temptress hanging around the right foot whispering that you have all that torque just a gentle foot press away. The speed limit comes up whilst you still have three gears to play with....
Don't expect much above 30mpg despite what the blurb would have you believe. My E71 holds 85 litres, not sure about the E70.
They
can do high 30's ......... but only if you drive like pvr.......

My A4 is obviously the same to fill up but only lasts 220miles!
305bhp from what originally?
I got my only 3 points in 20 years in my X5!

Fuel is not a major issue to me really. Just as long as the manufacture claims it is less than 35 mpg combined.
Yeah the X5 40D is still a fast car, i have raced a 2009 plate 535d and left it for dead in my A4 so you know how fast my A4 is, The X5 40D is still a mega fast car especially with all that toque as you said.
I was reading somewhere that you can cruise at 100 mph in 8th gear and do 2500 rpm which is amazing !
Yeah it will be 30 ish like my A4.
The E70 hols 85 litres of fuel.
Well i no longer speed anymore i have too many points so i will be driving like "pvr"

They really do lope along at that. Very comfortable cruiser, especially so with Comfort Seats.
And there's a healthy 'snarl' when booted too, or at least there is on the X6, and I can't see the X5 being much different.

Yeah will you have a RS4 that's just a guzzling Monster !
)
It was a 211 BHP but i got a Revo Remap to 305 Bhp without any mods.
It has a IHI turbo and the exhaust can stand the extra power all standard and it runs perfectly and has done for 22500 miles since i have had it. I have had it on the rolling road got 300 Bhp.
I also have a little device called a "SPS" for it so i can turn the remap down or i can turn it off.
I haven't had any points in ages but since i got this Audi just over 2 years ago i keep on getting them. i got caught racing on slip road 98 mph, Speed camera van 37 another speed camera van, and i went to france and they caught me at 113 in a 70 and fined me 750 quid ey, they caught me at that not what i was doing !
