Hello to all

New to the site and am currently deeply involved in a love hate relationship with my E53 4.8 X5.

Love the car.. Hate the absolutely rubbish frustrating money swallowing air suspension!!

Am baffled how the mighty BMW chose to try and ruin such an awesome machine with such a set up.

Have already been pointed in direction of Raj on this site so I think a suspension conversion is on the cards.

However that said the X still makes me smile everytime I drive it!!

I'm sure Raj could make a living out of converting 4.8' s to springs ;)

Welcome Chris, from another newbie who knows exactly how you feel in this love / hate X5 world.

Next job is sorting out the sat nav which does not show the maps, even after replacing the laser!

The car drives beautifully and puts a smile on my face but then it reminds me I need to spend money when I stop (apart from at the pumps).

Cheers,

Chris

Wasn't the air susp 'borrowed' from Land Rover when it was owned by BMW?

That explains it all then & I can now understand why it fails so frequently...you would think the Germans would know better than trusting anything that's been manufactured by the English! Shocking corner cutting.

Guess it was a matter of its cheaper to just use the system than develop their own properly.

You are right Raj & I bet it would have made lots of sense at the time.
