Hi and welcome to the forum
For that sort of budget you will be able to pick up a 2004 facelift 3.0d sport with 90/ 100 K I imagine.
Early pre facelift s are going for 5 K, so I would be looking for a facelift model, as they are 218 BHP and 500 nm of torque.
You will get a better feel for what is available by visiting Autotrader.
Good luck with the search

thanks for your reply i appreciate it. the only thing that is kind of puting me off going for one is for the money i have to spend it looks like it will have done 100k if noot over that. Are there alot of common problem that i may have or are these engines bullet proof?

There are a couple of great buyers guides in the sticky section on the forum, have a read, they cover a lot of your questions

Firstly.......
Secondly the engines are pretty much bombproof as long as the crankcase breather has been changed - details are on the Forum for a DIY job. If this clogs it can cause premature turbo failure. The later version (from 2006) solves this.
Gearboxes are a known weakspot and need careful checking. The majority are absolutely fine, but there have been a lot of failures and a rebuild is around the £2k mark. This ZF 6-sp auto box has been trouble in every car it is fitted to - not just BMWs. Manuals are about but very very rare.
Electrics are something to be looked at VERY carefully, as is the Panoramic sunroof. You will find a good buyers guide on here and as long as you do your research (on here is good too) then you should be OK, or at least forearmed!
Don't be afraid to ask questions - even if you think they might be silly. The only silly questions are the ones never asked....

No chance of getting a really good facelift diesel for £7k IMO. Having spent the last 6 months looking for an x5, I'm pretty well versed on the market and you'd only just get a v8 petrol for that money. The pre-facelifts are going for less but facelift starting point under 100k, for something that isn't for sale because it needs shifting quick (ergo something not right about it, is more like 8-9k.)

My father in law has just bought a 54 reg 3 litre petrol with 117k and in immaculate condition for £6500 so I think you would struggle to get a decent diesel for 7k. Someone on this forum has just sold his 55 reg diesel and that was up for £10500!

Hi,
I hope you located the buyers guide and found it of some use.
I know you asked re what your money could buy rather than state it but I think 90k face-lifted 3.0d are not going to be plentiful albeit it is not unknown to get lucky in negotiations.
Beware of any car priced well below comparable similar others..........it may be a bargain but it could be trouble.
Good Luck

Welcome to the forum, as a recent X5 buyer, I found the information on here invaluable.
I started out looking at Facelift Diesels, hoping to spend about £7k, but ended up with a pre facelift petrol when I realised what I could get for nearer £5k, and have the money saved in my back pocket to pay for petrol!
Good luck, I hope you end up with a good one
