Hi I see lots of forum members are switching over to winter wheels. Any advice on what I could fit in my E70 that is currently shod with 20"?

I bit the bullet and went with a BMW winter hotel packaging - £2100 for some 19" buggers. I had been looking for 20" winter tyres, but no one seemed to have any at all, and it was too much of an arse on to source 19" alloys then a set of wheels.
But I would pull your finger out, with what is forecast this weekend there could be a run on winter tyres

My local dealer is charging the same for 19's but is not offering the hotel scheme. Also I am quite tempted to have non run flats as winter tyres.

I am surprised by how many people go for winter wheels, personally living in London I cannot remember weather being so bad I cannot drive. I can understand if you live somewhere remote but for built up areas? This is my first X5 so I could be proved wrong.

Well, we got small hills here (and I really mean small), and last winter the X5 on summer tyres could not get up or down them without going sideways.
On winter tyres, there was absolutely nothing to it - solid as a rock everywhere. Visiting some friends over the Christmas period, and snow etc is the last thing you want to worry about on the back roads.

I live in London and agree it is not normally much of an issue but I use my car for travel all over the place and you never know what you may encounter.
