am i correct in thinking that the 3.0 Diesels run filthy rich when on boost, hence the puff of black smoke? would a remap solve the black smoke issue?
Jason?

mine has been remapped and i still get the big puff of black smoke on flooring the accelerator.
i think its more a trait of diesels in general.

Mine smokes too - as does 5hep's which has been remapped, as does Jeegnesh's which is also remapped. Been following them in the past...

On full throttle it shouldn't. I'd try some of the other suggestion - changing the air filter first though...

Mine puffs out smoke when I turn up the taps.It shouldnt smoke all of the time so as mentioned by Sanj change your air filter. I did a "how to" a few months ago which should help you but any problems give me a shout.

Mine smokes when I do the 'Italian tune-up'
I was going to get Jason to map mine so it would smoke more when I try and do a quick getaway...or have I seen too many James Bond films?!

It wouldn't surprize me if Avtar's still cleaning his e70 after following you to the go carting
that thing was like a steam train

My E53 doesn't smoke anywhere as much as my E39 does .
Give the E39 welly , and it's like 007's smoke cloud .
By comparison , the X5 hardly shows anything at all .

3.0d up to about 2002 used the dde4 ecu system these tend to smoke a bit more,if these are tuned wrong these will smoke loads, some tuners adjust the air mass quanity maps which will make these smoke more,
yours should not smoke on full load all the time,if it dose then it has to much fuel being injected thats not being burnt,
there can be many causes air mass, wrong software after fitting new air mass, low turbo pressure or worn turbo, air leaks and so on
