rear camber

Post by macca » Wed Jul 31, 2013 5:13 am

ok ive done it ive ordered the KMAC rear camber kit for my 2005 3.0d e53, i had it lowered about a year ago and had run out of rear camber adjustment, so as expected the rear inner edges of my tyres took a hammering (315,s)

so ive ordered the kit, its supposed to double that available stock camber range so hopefully i will be able to get some better wear from my rear tyres.

thankfully the fronts wear better now lowered so no need to mess with that.

i,ll post results if anyone is interested

I've fitted 2 sets of these. One to my own 4.8 and the other to another members on here after I fitted the coilovers.

Rear adjustment really increases greatly and allows a lot more fine tune adjustment in camber and toe.

You won't regret it for sure.

Hi Ewen.

Not really much to say but you just have to remove the lower H arm and press the old bushes out and the new ones in. You just need to make sure you fit the correct ones as 2 different sizes go in each arm. Think its the shorter one at the rear and longer at the front. You just need to make sure you measure each of the new ones against the old before pressing them out. Apart from that very straight forward to do.

HTH,

Raj.

kit arrived, looks simple enough, it gets fitted in a couple of days ( Wednesday)

looking forward to get away from the tyre rumble associated with uneven wear and directional tyres

Well that worked well, the tyre shop didn't even get the first bush out before the thread on the removal tool stripped,
the bolt and nut on the tool were not hi tensile and couldnt take the load, also the diameter of the bolt was never going to be enough.

rang the supplier ( KMAC) and the guy hummed and hawed and then admitted that yes you have to remove the lower control arm, and then it will work, yeah right.

so ive booked the car in now with my mechanic, he has a press and will be able to use that in conjunction with the supplied tool to press the old bushes out and the new in.

what a drama, thankfully the first guy was able to bolt it all back together and the car was operational again.

so from a sampling of ONE if you are planing this job just pay someone to do it for you and make sure they know WHAT they are doing.

stay tuned

Have to admit my understanding was you always needed to remove the H arm and press the bushes out/in properly. Also using a press I wouldn't bother with the bush tool supplied as it will just buckle as you've found.

yep seems to be the way, KMAC in there instructions imply you can do it on the car, just drop the stabiliser link and the lower shock mount and then undo the two inner mounting points ( where the bushes are)

reality is somewhat different.

i have it now booked in for this coming thursday to have it done. so hopefully all goes well.
