Tow Trust Tow Bar

Post by Benstan » Mon Jul 22, 2013 10:41 am

Thought I would add to the towbar debate - I just had a Tow Trust bar fitted to my E70 - £440 all in. I had one on my 5 series and it was great.

I'm very pleased with the fit - cant see it at all when removed and pretty elegant when it is in place.

Looks like a decent bar...... :ok:

I'm just looking to fit a tow bar to my outlaws car.  We're towing the trailer (old Erde 121 but with new tyres) down to them soon and the biggest issue is I can't see the blasted trailer out the back of the X6!  Cue two cycle flags so I can see where the thing is.  It looks like you have a larger ERDE (or similar) trailer with decent sized wheels.

I'm looking to fit either the OEM towbar for their car - which would be the Bosal 'Oris' range - or a Westfalia.  Waiting for them to decide what option they want.  There seem to be a wide range of options with a similar range of costs.  There are also some that don't fit the OEM hard points and in my view are therefore 'questionable' as to capability and quality......

I had the OEM bar fitted to our current cars and I think both are Westfalia.

Thanks - the trailer is a Humbaur (German I think) with high sides and ply top - it's very good and I'm pleased with it.

Im thinking about getting a tow bar.  I know westfalia is the OE, but ( and I am sure someone on here will correct me if I am mistaken ) I thought I saw somwhere in the fitting instructions that the lower bumper needs cutting for the tow bar, whereas that one looks very neat indeed. I would definately  want to go with original mounting holes.

Regards,

Nat.

From the pic it does look like the plastic lower part of the bumper has been cut (but cut very neatly). Shame they couldn't make a removable piece there like on the E53's.

On the E70 it would have been better as it would still be out of sight. Wonder what they look like if they are ordered from factory?

Yes it does. .. There are instructions on the PF Jones site.

And as also done on the X6.  I do think BMW could have done better for the E70, and although the 2010 onwards builds are slightly different they still need some sawing done.

Pic of the X from the weekend camping. Went to Tangham in Suffolk - glorious spot.

Very nice too.  I ended up fitting a Westfalia to the Astra.  Fitting it was easy, but half the car has to come to bits.....and strangely, not quite in the way the manual suggests!!

'Undo 8 bolts and pull off the rear bumper' turned into undo 6 Torx screws (two were no longer used) and then spend 45 mins trying to work out what the modified fitting used by Vauxhall actually was.... >:D

Got there in the end, even though the MIL was worried I'd never get her car back together... :o :( >:(
