X5 in for mot today and was told that front spring had gone, so a fail. part ordered but had to come from Beemer as it is the sport X5sd. The sport part making it Beemer only.
Now I knew it needed one and had been trawling the web and found them for x price but always out of stock, thinking that maybe an unusual part to have and as it was just the first inch had broken always put it off.
So, is it true it has to be from Beemer, difference being about 125 quid and seeing the roads here knowing I may break another soon?
Thoughts from anyone always helpful. Thanks.

Re: Springs - is this true....?
I would be tempted to change both front ones to non OEM, and do a sport suspension delete, may make the ride better

Re: Springs - is this true....?
Sports suspension delete is likely to involve a lot more than just replacing springs.
It's not uncommon for BMWs to snap springs although I've never heard of it on an X5 before.

Re: Springs - is this true....?
True I am afraid, I had to change both springs after 1 went, the sports ones are BMW only. To make things worse, one of my shocks was leaking (apparently a result of british roads according to BMW) and a shock was £450 + fitting for 1....!
Re: Springs - is this true....?
BMW springs always go.
On my E46 I had a front spring break whilst it was SORN and parked up in the garage, rolled it forward 5M to access and change the spring, rolled it back and within a couple of weeks the other side did the same. Also had to change the back ones too as they both failed.
I would def change both if pos as the difference in spring strength could upset the handling and not in a good way.

Thanks all, I feel better about the garage now but not about Beemer, they make it hard to love them sometimes!

Re: Springs - is this true....?
Our E46 breaks them too.......and one Dealer told me it was because BMW were using recycled steel to make them!! Like that should make a difference
