Panel / cavity wax leaking !?

I appear to have a problem with the rear tailgate (upper section), botttom right hand edge is 'bleeding' a light brown wax type stuff in the current heat and it's running down the lower panel leaving a stain/mark. Now the only way to remove the residue is Menzerna final finish polish.
Anyone else experienced this, I'm wondering if I should plug the drain hole to prevent it until the hot weather ends?

On the plus side at least I know theirs plenty of cavity wax in the tailgate  :)

Except it's all leaking out!

You could try temporarily blocking the hole as long as you remember to unblock it later.

That's the problem, at this rate they'll be none left  :D
I did a google search and found a couple of references to other models of BMW with it leaking out of the bottom of the doors, spoke to the dealer I got it from but they've never heard of it.
As you say I think I'll plug the drain hole and see if that stops it, once things cool down I'll remove the plug.

Hi,

Plugging the drain hole is pointless. If you think of the tailgate as a Flat panel, the wax has to run down the entire length of the panel to get to the drain hole at the bottom. If you block the drain hole, you are only stoping the wax from getting out and it collects internally at the bottom. You are not  " re deploying" it back up the tailgate by blocking the drain holes.  Perhaps plug it, then consider parking the X5 on a very steep hill to make it run back up the tailgate if you prefer as a mad solution to the issue. Then leave it there till the weather gets a bit colder so it can harden again.
You will find that its probably still got plenty of wax left inside. I really wouldnt worry about it. Lots of cars do/did this , the Golf GTI tailgate being the most famous one for it.

Regards,

Nat.

Good point about not plugging the hole, it could end up with a build up that clogs the drain hole when cold.
The real issue is that it's staining the paint on the lower tailgate section as it runs down and it's a nightmare to remove, I even applied a heavy layer of HD wax to the panel after cleaning last time in the hope it wouldn't adhere so well but it hasn't worked.
