Well after fitting my CCFL rings a few weeks back I loved them the only down side was I had to unplug the front and rear little speakers for the PDC as the went nuts when ever reverse was selected and because I have them wired as DRL's I couldnt even turn them off when reversing,
So I went ahead and ordered a set of SMD rings from Hong Kong and happy days they arrived this morning so switched them out when I got home here's some picks:
My spare set of CCFL's along side the new SMD rings:
first set fitted along side the old CCFL's:
50 meters away in bright daylight the SMD show up just like OEM rings in the new X5's
Both fitted:
from a distance:
Chuffed with the look of the SMD rings and now I can hook my PDC back up woohoo....

Nothing car related but I've started using the smd led floodlights in my electrical work and they are epic, I just put 3x30w equivellent to 3x500w in a church and the next beam had 5x150w lights on and they are just made to look like they arnt on by the smd's and the smds need no lamps ever and using a 8th of the power!

Thanks,
Here's a link to where I got them from but for some strange reason he has changed it to no delivery to the UK,
Ive sent them a message enquiring about it as I wanted a second set just so I have spares in case I ever need anything and I can no longer get them, So hopefully they do still send to us.
I'll let you know what they say when they reply

Costs were £37 delivered (but at the min there not delivering to the UK which I'm enquiring about)
Ive been told they will fit but your lights need more aggressive work splitting them where as I just needed a hot air gun and a screwdriver.
Wiring for me was dead simple because I have already wired (in the passenger footwell) my lights to come on with unlocking and as DRL's so I didnt even need to use the supplied wiring loom instead i simply wired them straight to my sidelight wiring at the back of the headlights.
Here's a link to how I wired my lights in the footwell:

I've been looking to replace my security lights with an LED equivalent......what's good out there (at a reasonable price)? The early one were rubbish!

Great question, I'm looking at doing the same but not sure what's good and what's not. I've got some energy saver ones up at the moment but they're pointless - not very bright and take forever to warm up.

If anyone is interested then EBay seller "e-auto-2011" apparently ships SMD Rings to the UK.
Not affiliated, but awaiting mine to turn up as one of my CCFLS failed last week and proceeded to blow spare invertor!!!!
