Hi guys,
At the minute I have 255/50/19 on my e53, just bought 22s with 285/35/22 off an e70.. Will these fit straight on mine or will I need spacers/spigot rings
Cheers
Wayne

been down this road looking for bigger wheels i drove a few e53 x5s with 20 inch and 22 inch the ride was not nice and spoilt the ride and handling the x5 felt a bit like it wanted to pull left and right ended up keeping my 19 so much better there was not way i could of lived with 20 inch wheel let a lone 22 look good yes but the ride wasnt worth having the big wheels

Answer to the OP re spacers or spigot rings - I believe the answer to be yes to that as it has come up on the forum a few times in the past. Ebay is your friend for the necessary spacers.
Size of wheels is often debated much to the amusement (and bemusement!) of many - its a very personal thing, there are those who think 22's are the best thing ever, and many others who would not go near them with a bargepole. Ride comfort and handling is a very important consideration for me anyway, and crashing along in an X on 22's doesn't interest me in the slightest. My 4.8is has 20"standard wheels which are ok on the Vredestein Sessantas I have fitted, but the ride is much softer and more comfortable on the 18" winter wheels - I have still not changed my X back to its 20"summer wheels this year yet LOL. Probably won't bother now! The winter rubber is meant to wear much quicker as its softer, but mine have been on for 3 years already and still around 5mm tread- changed them over the first year but not last year or this one so far!

Any wheel that isn't made by BMW looks very chavvy in my opinion!

Haha there are some bug ugly ones aren't there? Especially in the larger sizes! 22's definitely not to my taste, I prefer OEM anyway. But it takes all sorts! This topic like LPG conversions tends to get heated sometimes! Lol

To answer initial question, you will need to fit spigot rings as the centre bore on the E70 is a touch bigger. Spacers may be required but only if you feel the rims still need to come out a little further but certainly fit them first and see.
Oh and everyone knows 21's
