C-TEK charger connection
C-TEK charger connection
Hi all.
A few q's
1st question - Where would i need to connect the charger, in the engine bay or directly on the battery?
2nd - If it needs lacing on the battery how can i lock down the car as in the instructions it said to ventilate, i cant leave the boot open outside?
2nd question - Why a dead battery? The only thing i have done recently is get my Webasto PCB fixed and installed. As some may have seen my previous post i tried firing it up but huge amounts of smoke came out so i shut it down and removed the fuse. Battery worked fine until sunday when i put the fuse back in to try it again to no avail. Nothing happening with Webasto. Scanner showed a K-BUS breakdown? So my question is, is leaving the fuse back in overnight using the battery for some strange reason now because for the last two mornings ive got a dead battery?
Cheers
Nick

Re: C-TEK charger connection
Connect in engine bay the battery should have own vent pipe already attached 24/7 as its installed in a confined area though do check as some are missing or have incorrect batteries . Important To ensure this is fine as there is potential for condensation build up in trunk otherwise.
You shouldn't need to constantly recharge there will be an issue with something drawing current. Electrics not my subject and even when sorted these cars can have tendency to have things draining in background - I would want a few days between drain episodes though
No idea re the webasto smoke and fireworks mystery
Good luck

Re: C-TEK charger connection
No prob - make sure there is some space around the charger especially if using it outdoors in the current heat and be careful to make sure it's on the right setting ie for cars not winter and not motor cycles - if you get time have a look to check battery vent pipe in place and ok

C-TEK charger connection
Wow! Cars been on charge since 11am yesterday and its still not fully charged. That's over 20 hours!
Only thing I have done is move the car to a better position for charging overnight near the garage after around 7 hours of charging, so at least it started ok.
Looks like ill be leaving it on all day again.
If its not fully charged later there's defo an issue.
Possibly something draining it whilst its charging???

Re: C-TEK charger connection
Are you sure your battery is ok? Might be as well to consider changing unless you are absolutely sure it is 100%.
Have you checked the usual battery drain suspects like the FSR etc?

Update-
28 hours on charge now and still not saying fully charged!
Just sat in the car after locking to see if anything awakens and noticed that the OBC stays slightly lit, as in it doesn't go fully off and dark but you can see the pixels are still actively there, albeit very faint, although the sun is shining and I can't see how bright it could be.
16 mins past and the cars gone sleep, light by gear selectors off, but screen still activ!
Why would this be happening now? Had the 2 months and not had a problem til now? Strange.

Re: C-TEK charger connection
How do you know it isn't fully charged? Are you looking at the charge indicator on the CTEK? If the car isn't in "sleep" mode then it will be drawing enough power to cause the CTEK to have to charge.

Re: C-TEK charger connection
Have you tried the Japanese reset??
Take battery out and charge fully then re-install.
Car would have discharged sufficiently by then to allow a fresh boot of all systems.

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

That's the best way really, just a bit of a fuss getting the thing out of its deep ditch in the boot underneath everything!
