Self Levelling Suspension Inactive message

Post by fatladandy » Sat Jul 06, 2013 1:59 pm

Hi Guys

Has the self levelling suspension inactive message pop up on the dash on the wifes 2002 4.4i X5 this morning I did notice on start up that the compressor didn't run, did a bit of poking around and couldn't find anything amiss until I checked the fuses. The 30A fuse in the fuse box on drivers side of boot had blown. I replaced it and as soon as I turned the ignition on it promptly blew again.

What part of the suspension does this control?

Also can the self levelling suspension be coded out using ncs expert? as if its likely to be expensive I am just going to chuck coil springs on the back end.

Cheers
Andy

Sounds like the compressor has burnt out, try unplugging the compressor multiplug in the boot ( if it has one, this will isolate the problem. Replace the fuse, try plugging the compressor back in, if this blows the fuse bingo.
If you only have air on the rear axle you can replace it with an EBay kit for £200 . Some. One did it for less with parts from elsewhere.
If you have all round air suspension, more hassle :(

Its just on the rear axle. I had noticed that the compressor was running for longer than normal in the last couple of weeks. Will have a look at the ebay kits, will also give my local dealer a shout as they give me a decent discount.

Is it possible to code it out on the dash with ncs expert or is some other software required

I think you can code out the warning with BMW Scanner 1.4.0, bur Raj will be able to advise as he's done the coil over conversion, alas have several members who have fitted the EBay spring conversions

I don't think a worn pump seal would be blowing a 30 amp fuse , unless it was so worn that the pump was seized up !
