Can the CD changer play burnt CD's?

Post by Thehinch » Fri Jul 05, 2013 6:28 am

I have a 2003 X5 and I have been unable to get the CD changer to recognize a burnt CD. When I put the CD magazine into the changer(with burnt CD's loaded) I hear the changer flick through all 6 CD's and the head unit displays 'No Discs'.

Has anyone been able to get their CD changer to recognize a burnt CD?

We know you Ozzie's like a BBQ but burning your cd's too  :fuelfire:  From memory i think the later E53's can play Mp3 cd's but these might have been from 2005-06 onwards.

Most guys either go for the Intravee or get the Aux socket fitted in the glovebox and use an mp3 player.

As long as the CD is a 'CD-R' then and burned as a normal Audio CD it should play, but certain brands of 'CD-RW' don't play as well as they should or at all.

If it's been burned as MP3 audio CD then as said above you need a CD changer from the late MY2005 onwards E53's.

Some CD burners seem to cause issues too.  One of mine produced discs that were 100% OK and yet from another burner would not play except on a PC or home CD player.  ???

Might also be worth checking if the discs are the original 650MB / 74 minute CD-R's and not the higher capacity ones.

I had tried TDK CD-80R 700mb 80min which didn't work.  I'll try the lower capacity CD-R 650mb as you suggest.  Cheers

I tried the TDK CD-80R 700mb 80min again and it worked fine but the difference being I had also put a commercial CD in the cartridge. The headunit detected the commercial CD and then i was able to choose the burnt CD.

Oh and I burnt the CD at 2 x speed.

Thanks for your help fellas

HI,

No Disk.............is a well documented issue.

It means your CD player is " Kaput ".

Been there, e-bay or friendly broker the cheapest options.
