Rear bumper....how much !

Found out that the 4.8 it's also quite quick in reverse...up the driveway and into the garage door! Small dent in garage and bumper scuffed but then noticed a slight lift in the centre. Asked the dealer how much to fix and apparently it needs a new bumper for £500. Not going to bother as no doubt it'll get bumped in car parks and if it's made of cardboard then it'll just happen again....just seems odd, can't have been doing more than 5mph.

That quote does not sound too bad when compared to my recent experience. A neighbours car (parked with handbrake only and not in gear) slid down the hill outside my house and dented the rear bumper of my '58 3.0SD. My insurers approved replacement of the bumper by a local repair centre. On collecting the car I enquired what the total cost had been - apparently 1,268 UK pounds, made up of 800 for the bumper (unpainted), new brackets that attach bumper to wings (bumper design has changed), plus cost to paint bumper and labour (parts of 2 days).

£500...................I assume that's without removal, fitting new & painting.

A good smart or localised repair will be circa £50-£100.

If it's so bad it cant be repaired then there's always the salvage route.

Leaving that would do my head in.

I had mine repaired after a car park type incident where the offending driver Disappeared without trace.

I took mine off and took along to my local body shop, they had It for 2 days (work was split between other jobs) and cost me £150 for complete repair and respray.  They even helped me put it back on the car as it is easier with 2 people.
