It never rains...

...but it pours.
Hi guys, haven't posted for some time. Seeing Peter on the school run today made me think that I must check in but, to be honest, it's been a rather extraordinary time for us (in a bad way) and my mind's been elsewhere.
Family health concerns, a bloody depressing diagnosis for me and my job ceasing to exist in a few months was enough, or so I thought.
These things come in 3's, right?
Wrong.
On Tuesday, our house was burgled in broad daylight while my wife was at home. She was hiding in the en suite while the goddamn scrotes ransacked our bedroom. Luckily, she was on the phone to the police the whole time and they were caught after a bit of a chase with a massive police response. They stole our watches (now returned) but we found out today that they had actually broken in to steal the car keys and the watches and jewellery was just a little bonus.
It's been unbelievably upsetting and I can't help but feel I should get rid of the car. With all the other stuff that's ongoing, I'm not sure I'm thinking particularly rationally at the moment, but it's been a real shock. I don't want to give in to some low-life scum but, on the other hand, I don't want to potentially jeopardise my family's safety for what is, in essence, a luxury.
I really don't know what to do.
Edit: This should probably be in The Lounge. Apologies.

Just a thought any chance you could get the scrotes together then a couple or 3 of us could knock the F**K out of them.Hope you and the family are ok mate.

Thanks mate. Really shaken up by it. At least they were caught and going to prison, which makes us feel a little better. They're like vermin - wherever you go, rich or poor areas, there always nearby, under the surface. Pure scum.
I'd take a big hit on the X but I'd feel a whole load safer with some boring people carrier on the drive. Thank God my kids weren't in the house when it happened.

that must have been a real horror! being in the house hiding while this was going on! lucky all of you are safe!
coincident or what - just a couple of hrs back my neighbor rang the bell and told me that as he drove in some scumbag hurriedly left our shared drive!! he had reversed out and followed him by car. the guy had met another who was waiting in a car a couple of houses away and driven off. had called the cops as well but where would that go..
agree the car is a blo0dy advert as well!
how about some security cams on the house? i've just been thinkin of some .. will act as a deterrent at the least. i remember seeing some on a maplin leaflet..

Shit
Sorry to hear on all 3 counts.
Somebody on the RS forum had his brand new m5 nicked the other night. They did find it but that isn't quite the point.
My thoughts on the 'posh' car thing go all over the place. One train of thought is why the fuck should some low life arseholes dictate what I spend my money and curb one of my pleasures and the other of course is it worth the risk!?
I think if I had been through what you had then it would be the latter. There is also the element that says sod it I won't be bullied by this scum.
Don't make a rash decision and I hope everything works out for you in the end on all counts

Thanks guys.
The job situation was incredibly worrying but relatively easily remedied - just need to be proactive in looking around. The illness is just something I need to get used to and it'll hopefully have a minimal effect on my life. Still upsetting though.
The car thing is f***ing with my head. I love my X and cars in general. My wife loves the X. But is it worth the risk? I know I'll be miserable with something less desirable but I'll be even more miserable if my family's safety or wellbeing is threatened again.
Bastards.

+1 with badboy why should you change vehicles whether its a £200 fiesta or new Aston they are people's property/pride and joy.invest in a camera system I no it's not going to physically stop them but it might make your misses and kids feel a little safer and a house alarm with a panic button will be good, and a F*****g shotgun to shoot the b******s aswell (I'm getting wound up for you now mate).

A year or so ago I had three lowlifes trying to get into my house via the back door at six in the morning, the circumstances would indicate that they were looking to steal one of my cars. I chased them off successfully which was just as well because the police never got there for far too long.
Would I consider giving up my cars because of that? Not a chance, you have to stand up to these scumbags although I do appreciate that not everyone thinks like that.

Not a pleasant experience at all!! We also wondered about getting rid of our BMWs after part of my wife's car was stolen whilst we were in and we never heard a thing! Those sprites were never caught - though probably down to a total lack of interest by Bedfordshire Police!!
We've kept them though and taken other measures to protect the property. The problem will always be that if they really want them they'll get em! All you can do is make it more difficult for them.
Sorry to hear about the other issues too. We're going through a tough time at work too and have no idea whether either of us will have a job by the end of the year. It's not a pleasant feeling and affects everything we do......

Jesus I'm really sorry to hear that pal. Thought you had been quiet.
Gates, electric doors, cameras, alarms and panic buttons with big mother sirens anything which means they have to spend time and make a noise - end of the day that's all any of us can do.
Not as immediately attractive as a nice Beemer, granted, but many cars are nicked for breaking on eBay too.
You have my number if you want to talk/meet. Take care mate.

Cheers snipez and all.
Uodate: scum have been remanded and due in court next week. It transpires they weren't after the car - they targeted the house as we are of Asian origin and they, wrongly, believed we had our own mini fort knox here.
I kinda feel better and kinda don't at the same time. Anyway, had decided to keep the car!

I am really sorry to hear the time you're going through. None of it pleasant but really feel for you with the burglary tbh especially as your wife had to endure it such as she did. Glad all safe as the other stuff is just materialistic.
Glad you've made the decision not to sell the X.

Thanks very much Raj. Of course, you're right - my family's safety is the most important thing. TBH, I'm really impressed how Jasleen has handled it all. Really made of stern stuff, I'm very proud of her.

Stay strong Huck or the S***bags win at least they were caught and hopefully will get a lot more than a slap on the wrist.
We had two attempts some time back, luckily the dogs let us know when anyone is around who shouldn't be there.
Both attempts were early hours, I have put up cameras and security lights mounted high so they cant be reached plus a big security post that locks behind each car. They came back, we got them on camera but after trying the security posts they left and so far haven't been back. In our case the Police were not able to respond in time but now have some nice pictures to help.

Glad you decided to keep the X mate. Must admit though, in all seriousness that's the first time I've heard about that particular belief/myth. Must be a Northerner thing?!
