Auto fold mirrors.

I'm a rare visitor these days but in need of help all the same if possible guys

The OS mirror has been playing up when folding in recently, juddering on the last part of the fold-in like a worm drive? was slipping. I fiddled with it a little manually and now it will only fold out if previously manually folded in. It won't fold in at all powered >:(

Before i start delving inside the casing, i thought i remembered several posts on this subject but i can't actually find any  :-[

My OS mirror is sluggish and at times doesn't make it all the way in or out, very frustrating.

I will use the linked 'how to' to take the cover off but I feel it may be a little more in depth to strip and lube the folding mech.

If I remember, I might take some pics. :)

I appreciate the responses but i think the issue i have is mechanical? the mirror folds out without any issues, It simply won't fold in but i can hear the motor running.

I guess it's dismantle time and have a prod inside!

I believe its tricky to take the casing apart without breaking some of the plastic clips and bits as they become brittle with age and the mirror glass breaks easily as well, so be gentle with it!  Replacement photochromic mirror glass is a ridiculous £314 from the dealers!    The gears wear down apparently as they are also plastic -sounds as if it could be a cog with worn / missing teeth?  Obviously not the microswitch problem which is pretty common and makes the motors flap in and out.

OK guys both motors are definitely working but the drivers side will not fold in, only out.

I dismantled as far as i can see is easily possible, does anyone know if removal requires the door card off or just the interior window trim?

Door card has to come off, connectors go the the window switch and part of the window surround trim is behind the door card.

Thanks, although not what i wanted to learn.

I see realoem lists a repair kit, i wonder what that comprises? as in my scenario the mirror glass and casings are all OK.

If i end up with a new replacement it would be pretty galling if it includes the mirror by default, and if it doesn't, how can it be  priced at c £500

I guess i'll find out in the morning.

Thismay be a better priced kit - looks to have all the bits you need. Give me the other £450 to go towards my buy-a-house fund!

Saphireblack, my drivers door mirror assembly looks very similar to yours now, except I have unscrewed the motor unit from the mirror housing.

I intend to dismantle as far as possible without removing the door card as they are never quite the same after.

Good luck with the repairs mate.

Have you gone beyond the point i showed in my pictures?

What were the next steps and 'how'?

Sanj

Thanks, i'd seen that kit but as viewed i'd have no idea how to assemble it or where it all fits, though i'd assume in the cylindrical 'stub' left on the car as i pictured. I couldn't see how to progress beyond the point i took the pictures. Any tips? The kit you show is great if it's a fix but if it isn't, its just another £45 on the bill  :noexpression:

Developments!!!

It doesn't look beyond me but does look fiddly for sure. The eBay seller in Sanj's link sent me these video clips, useful for everyone i imagine. Parts ordered now and the fun can begin soon.

Brilliant - hope it works out for you (sorry couldn't reply earlier). Will be 10 times easier if you can get the door card off though - hate the way they let the mirror casing dangle like that! I had the whole lot out and on a table to look over when I was changing to folding mirrors.

Happy to help if you need the door card off but very easy if you use the BSW speaker install video.
