Fuel pump continues to run on ignition

Hi all,
New to the forum but looking for a little help/advice.
I have a 06 E53 3.0d with 52k miles on the clock.
6 months ago starting the X5 started to become slightly more laboured and a little smoke on start up. I put the car into the local Indy explained what was happening and what I thought the problem might be (injectors). They performed a leak off test and said number 1 injector was leaking more than the others, not bad but could be doing with getting replaced. A month or so later number 1 got replaced.
Prior to number 1 being replaced and the laboured starting the fuel pump would kick in when the ignition was turned on for 3/4 secs cut out and start fine.
The fuel pump now continues to run with the ignition on and won't cut out at all (still laboured starting and a little smoke).
I have since performed a injector leak off test myself, £40 a pop at the local Indy and no longer trusting them as led me to get hands on again.
Below is the results of the leak off test with the X5 running 30 seconds
1) 5ml
2) 4ml
3) 4.5ml
4) 4.5ml
5) 5.5ml
6) 5.5ml
From what I have read these results are not bad, cylinders 5/6 do leak off slightly more than others and 1 being the one replaced isn't far behind!! But as far as I'm aware these are well within spec.
Does anyone have any input/anything else I can test as to why the fuel pump won't cut out and the laboured starting?
