Hi All,

Our X5 has developed a Squeeky suspension on the rear passenger side, more of a dry Squeek than anything else. Car runs fine and you can't hear it from inside the car, but it is very noticeable from outside. Is there any thing there that requires some love and attention or is this the start of something bigger :o

Cheers

Reedler

Possibly rear subframe bushes. Mine squeaked before being done.

Rear balljoint.
Can the ballpoint be lubricated in anyway?
Thanks Reedler

You can try WD40 etc on it but tbh probably won't make a huge amount of difference. Mine squeaked really badly and when I removed it, it fell apart. Best thing to do is get someone to stand in the side step and rock the X while you listen to where the squeak is coming from. Might be subframe bushes but more likely ball joint.

+1 for Ball Joints (that's what it was on mine, anyway).

The air suspension seems to "take up the slack" and removes any evidence of play.

Jack the rear end up and discharge the suspension.  Any play will then become obvious.

I drove into my local Indy (who really is excellent) with a squeak from my left rear. His words were "oh, you've got a squeaky trunnion". I had never noticed it before, but while away and driving on cobbled type streets with the window open (well it is June!) I could hear it. Indy said not a major issue, sort it when you're ready or it goes completely. Didn't as about cost.
