Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
Got a letter from my previous insurers Sureterm Direct stating that they had overcharged me by £227.82 during 2009/2010 period.
They were offering a refund for this amount, so went onto the site to give info they wanted ( Ref No, post code) and hey presto, cheque will be with you within 30 days.
Is this to good to be true?

Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
Does sound a bit scam like. Best phone them directly rather than use any web page, especially a link from an email!
Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
It was a letter, not a email link.
I had the option to call them and it is the same tel number as their customer services.
Let's see what happens.

Could you let me know how you got on? I know someone this has happened to with them, was it a scam?
Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
Almost related but my NatWest home insurance just wrote to advise me they had failed to enact a web discount last year so are refunding 50% of the premium. No request for any details and proforma letter used so they must be sending to a lot of people.

Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
It may be connected with issues they may have had with a company called Close Personal Finance who look after the monthly direct debit side - or did then. Google them and you'll find a load of very unhappy customers. If it was CPF then judging from what I've read all kinds of mistakes may have been made.

Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
535d boy, what exactly are they trying to scam him for?
They sent him a letter, ergo they know his address (and postcode which they asked for) so aside from being some lawyer trying to secretly trick people into a class action (hence the request for policy #) I fail to see what he could stand to lose??
By sending a letter out to the policy holder's last known/on file address they are betting on people having moved so costs them less than auto refunding everyone surely?

Re: Sureterm Direct Insurance refund
Hi all!
I've registered to the forum as this post was the only one I could find about this Sureterm letter. I received one today, and my immediate feeling is it's a scam, for the following reason:
1) It's printed in colour but on an inkjet printer, or a low quality colour laser, but it is NOT on pre-printed paper as you would expect
2) It doesn't use the current Sureterm Direct logo
3) It's wording is very amateurish and not a professionally written explanation, as you would expect.
4) Tell me the last time you had to "claim" a refund, as opposed to being sent a letter with a cheque attached?
5) They tell you they may (will) ask for lots of personal details, such as DOB, car details, confirmation of postcode etc. They already know the address, but the DOB will be the vital thing you give them here, along with confirming which address is yours, because address + DOB == identity fraud.
They provide you with 2 phone numbers, the first is clearly NOT SureTerm's number, and down at the bottom, they try to cover it by offering a number which does appear to be SureTerms
I'd get the phone number from SureTerms own site directly and phone them, but I wouldn't call the number on the letter or go to the web site (which is registered by Capita)
If it IS genuine, it's pretty poor, as all pointers suggest it's a scam. Which means that our private data has been leaked to someone...

True to their word, letter arrived today, with a cheque inside.
