Google couldn't come up with an answer how to open the glovebox without removing the whole unit or the airbag from above it. I decided to try and find a fix myself. I took one of the spanners from the tool kit and managed to slide it between the top of the glove box and the dash. This provided enough space to reveal 4 Phillips screws across the top of the glove box. I removed these 4 screws which allowed the glove box door to drop slightly further down And provided access to the lock mechanism. I released the 2 metal tabs on the lock using a flat head screwdriver and the door opened onto my lap.
The issue was clear as the rear of the lock on my glove box was in pieces in the glove box itself and the screws from the lock hanging loose were what caused the rattle. I put the lock back together and tightened the screws. Lifted the glove box back up and replaced the 4 Phillips screws across the top of the glove box. I now have a perfectly working glove box A short crappy video showing my success ha ha First thing I have ever fixed myself when it comes to a car
