Can't quite work this one out, hope someone on here can help.
Since I've had my x (2006 X5 3.0d) the rear speakers haven't worked. So today I took everything out of the boot, located the radio module and checked all wires from which as far as I could see we're ok.
So next step was to remove door panels and check wiring to door speakers. Again all seemed ok. So I thought to myself I would shelve this job for another day as I don't need the speakers in the back as such to enjoy music and I've got another jobie to do.
Next job was to fit an official BMW aux in cable. So I fitted the cable in the glove box, mmm don't like that, so moved it to the ashtray, ahh much better. Now comes the odd issue..... When I pugged my iPod in the music started, then I heard a pop and the drivers side speaker no longer outputs sound. Oh dear I thought. Anyway I'm ranting now, so my problems are this;
Radio, tape, cd, nav - both front speakers. No rear
Aux input - left front speaker only. No right or rear
Any help would be appreciated.

Sorted the reason for front right speaker not working... Dodgy cable going to iPod!!
Still can't get any sound out of rear speakers tho with any output.
Anybody got any advice. Could it be the obc (high) ?

How handy are you?

If you are - we can start delving into the boot and the RCM module and start looking at the right pins (swapping them, etc) to see where the fault may lay.

Also, what is the speaker setup? Standard, hi-fi upgrade or full-on DSP. Way to tell is to look in the rear doors and see how many speaker grills you have there - 2 or 1. 2 = hi-fi Speaker upgrade.

DSP = sub in the right rear cubby hole (under the fuse box).

Apart from checking the quad-lock connector in the boot is dry & clean (it's down by the battery) and the balance hasn't been set to front only, it might be a bad amp.

I know when I lost my left rear it was a green wire in that rear quad-lock where the pin was partly pushed out and was not making contact - installation error by the guys that fitted my Dension ICE>Link kit (not that they would admit to it of course!!

I presume i have the standard speaker set up as there is only 1 speaker in rear doors and no i dont have DSP.

I did check all wires going into the radio module weren't loose as well as taking the quad-lock connector off and replacing to no avail.

Will have another look tomorrow if i get time and try swapping the wires around as sanj has advised.

here's a simple test, if you've managed to figure out the config of the quad lock wires (if not i remember seeing it somewhere here..)

if you have a volt meter, put it to ohms mode, and connect the 2 probes into each of the speakers. that is, both wires. the speaker should make a crackling noise as you connect/disconnect if the wires are intact and the speaker is functioning.

alternatively, get a 1.5v AA battery, connect it to each of the speakers, that is both wires.. 1.5v will not bust the speaker (i've done this myself!) but don't hold it. crackle is only when you connect/disconnect so that's what you have to momentarily do.

if the speakers are all working your problem is with teh BM54 and that is quite a common problem. search for baris in this forum who comes well recommended for repairs.

when i got my car the left side speakers weren't working. i figured usign the above method that the wires and speakers were fine and the bm54 was busted. unfortunately baris wasn't discovered back then so i got my bm54 repaired through a block on ebay.
