Currently looking to replace our Q7 with an X5 and love the meaty looks of the LCI Car.

I understand that the LCI has a new 8 speed gearbox which provides a much improved fuel economy over the pre LCI car but I cant find any real time info on how much the mpg has improved?

Has anyone upgraded their X5 from a pre to post LCI that can comment?

Im not sure if the premium on the LCI is worth it if there is not much improvement.

BMW quote between 10-15% between the two versions plus one VED tax band lower.

You also get updated iDrive.

Are you looking at a single or twin turbo version?

I have a budget of around £32k so the 3.0d is more likely the choice if im looking to buy main dealer. I could get a 40d if I went to a non BMW Dealer or private.

£32k could get me a low mileage madly spec'd pre LCI Car hence my question

I have a 40d but given your situation, I think I would be inclined to go for a better spec'd pre-LCI 35d.

My brother in-law had a limited edition 35d which had loads of options included , which I believe came out in early 2010.  Worth having a look to see if there are any of those about.

I had a pre lci for 6 months
Drove a lci version ,then done a deal with the dealer that day

You should know better than to ask that question! Welcome back. 

New one has the better box and the better iDrive. Take the new one. You'll always think 'what if'?

Thanks You know I wouldn't stay away from BM's for that long

Decisions decisions - pre LCI cars are a wee bit cheaper with a much better spec - can also get a 35d but the LCI cars look and drive much better.

Well I've just went from a pre lci 4.8se (2 1/2 years ) to a 40d se lci , and I'm loving it

Gearbox is silky smooth very nice indeed , have the matched power to the 4.8se with better fuel economy .

The better I drive by far , wife had this in her 325 vert and used to hate jumping back into mine with the older pre lci idrive .


Best to get a test drive both ,you don't want to spend that amount of penny's and like others have said "what if "

Right - mind made up it has to be an LCI but gutted as just missed an amazing spec car at BMW Park Lane  :cry1:

+ point is that they are now trying to sell me a 40d by offering me crazy discounts to match the one I just missed

Sounds good, what options does the 40D have?

It really seems to depend on what dealer you get in terms of discount, my recent experience was that they were not will to offer anything. Nothing, nadda. Walked away from the deal. But the car is still on the forecourt with a discount in ticket price now! Silly dealers!!

The 30d I just missed had all the above +
TV, comfort seats, reversing and birds eye camera's, piano black trim with oyster upgraded leather, high beam asst, high gloss shadow line and was im sexy oyster blue

Comfort seats and oyster leather , if you can get the comforts seats way better over the sport IMO , just adjust the upper electric bolster to hug you , plus being a short ar*e I don't have a lower bolster to get my leg over  :-[

Lovely but I don't think I'll find another with comfort seats and Pan roof together

That one's gone now.....
