Fuel gauge help *UPDATE*

Post by maddocks21 » Thu May 30, 2013 9:21 pm

Ive had a few probs with the fuel gauge  /  running out of petrol.

Its a 2001 4.4v8

To start with the needle would go no lower than 1/4 showing 50mile range and run out of petrol. on the obc it would show as 0litres on lhs side of tank

Took it in to my local indy and along with other work diagnosed the left hand side fuel sender faulty.
They replaced it.

Now needle doesnt seem to want to move below half way. Its now showing 43ish litres total on the obc (about 7ish on rhs and 36/37 on the lhs) and a tank range of 160 miles left)

admitally the car doesnt cover many miles (got a works van for personal use) does the above range / litres sound about right or is there anything else i need to change?

Hi & welcome

Sorry your having probs with the fuel gauge the link below may help as very similar prob encounter by philuk as 2 senders ( one with a pump) not sure which one is for the lower level of the tank but i would guess Its likely to be the more expensive one

UPDATE.

Right bit of a strange one. Whilst driving the ful gauge doesnt go down. If i look on the obc the display is showing the correct amount of fuel in both side tank (have measured fuel etc)

Now if i turn the ignition off and back on again the needle then moves to the correct level. It just doesnt move when driving.

Anyone got any ideas?
