Heated seat retrofit

Post by iamone8 » Mon May 20, 2013 9:42 pm

Hello All members

I am new to this forum so a hello to all you X drivers out there.
Recently purchased a E53 SE LCI with cloth seats and was contemplating adding the heated seat retrofit.
I have researched the forum entries on this subject and as usual get conflicting answers about what is already fitted to the car.
The parts at local BMW say the heated elements are already present. The servicing chap in the same dealer says they are not.
I have checked the car and there are fuses in the heated seat locations.
There is also a central ridge in the seat back where it meets the base cushion ( suggestive of wiring)
Is there any further advice anyone can offer on determining what is already fitted to the car.
Thanks in advance.

AManz :)

I've fitted heated front seats to an E53 that didn't have them from original build.  (see my how-to for pictures of how to do this).
I don't believe all seats have the heating elements fitted, though there are stories of some rear seats with elements fitted even when not part of original spec.  I wasn't one of the lucky ones...
The wiring is in place front and rear though.  All you need for the fronts is the switch panel with the seat heating controls and the heated seats.  It's 'plug and play'.
