2004 E53 X5 3.0d Sport - ticking sound

I made this post at the weekend but it seems to have disappeared :(

My X5 has developed a ticking sound (only when the engine is running) which appears to be coming from the papsenger drivers door area. At first I thought it was the motor in the mirror or the electric window.

When i get out of the car and go round to the drivers door its difficult/impossible to hear due to background or engine noise. Sitting in the passenger seat it appears to be coming from the door pillar/lock area.

It sounds like a sensor or relay kicking in and out. Everythign (lock/mirror/window) appears to be working fine. Switiching the engine off and back on sometimes makes it go away

Does anyone have any idea what this might be and how I resolve it ?

Thanks

Smee

Not a problem, that is the heater :)

When temperature is low, you can really hear it chuck away.

Love these posts!

They come at this time of year and I was one of them!

You have nothing to worry about - the Webasto is kicking in when you get 7 celcius or less...

It's initial purpose is to pre heat the heavy/thick oil in the derv's AFAIK...but can also be used as a cabin heater as an extra ;)
