Sat Nav has totally disappeared from menu :(

Post by x5dom » Wed May 15, 2013 8:00 pm

Evening

For some bizarre reason the sat nav feature has disappeared from my monitor. At the same time the MENU screen has reverted to some antiquated version (see attached pic).

Image

I ejected the Sat Nav dvd and tried to reload a v.32 software update dvd but it is not being picked up by the MkIV dvd drive at all. No change comes up on monitor and eventually dvd drive ejects it.

Have tried pulling the fuses to the monitor/navigation system in a hope of resetting everything, but to no avail. The annoying MENU sans sat nav returns.

It's getting ever so slightly annoying now :sad1:

Anyone ever experienced the same? Would love to get it all back working as it should...

Cheers in advance

Dom

Disconnect and then reconnect the battery. Give it at least 30 mins before reconnecting. Should work.  :)

I had this exact same problem 3 months after upgrading my nav disc with a copy from the fleabay - I thought the screen was broke.

I DOWNGRADED my software back to the original, as my friend who is a BMW tech wouldn't look at it unless it was standard.  I have the downgrade disc as the guy put the wrong splash screen logo on the disc he sold me originally.

When I downgraded, everything was back to normal, and I have never re-applied the update, and had no further problems.

The guy that made your upgrade, should be able to give you a downgrade disc.

Thanks X5 ALN but the system has worked faultlessly since upgrade back in 2010 so doubt it is that.

Sanj, was hoping the pulling fuse would take care of that. Royal pain pulling spare out etc. Worth a go suppose. Will have to wait until Friday night then. Even though starts a treat, I'm on my original battery still so half tempted to just stick a new Bosch S5 in there whilst I'm at it...

Will update

V32 should be on a CD not a DVD.  The battery reset is a necessary evil with these cars (and a right royal PITA) as it resets the whole system.  There are so many interconnections that it is often the Dealer's first procedure in most cases for unexplained faults anyway. ;)

I had the identical problem last year - that funny screen also has a very odd telephone answering screen as well, all very odd.  It happened to me several times and always knocked out the sat nav, eventually the problem proved to be a faulty alternator, of all things.  I also replaced the original 6 year old battery with a new one, but this did not fix the problem.  I had other strange electronic issues randomly pop up though, not just the sat nav one.    Original battery did not test as being faulty and alternator didn't appear overtly faulty on test either, but all the problems vanished once it had been replaced.........

Also, pull out the connectors to the satnav unit and then reseat them.

Normal service miraculously resumed without touching/disconnecting anything else. If happens again then will replace the battery I think. Will get alternator checked too. Many thanks for replies/pointers

Hi all

I seem to be having the same issue on my wife's x5...

I have two exactly the same spec and year, facelift e53.

I updated the software and maps on one and it has worked perfectly, however on the other I now have this new menu as the first post above??!!

Did anyone find a solution? I'm not sure if this is relevant but the power light on the DVD unit in the boot isn't on anymore but I can still hear the cd spinning?

Any help would be most appreciated

Cheers

V

Have you tried rebooting the Nav unit by disconnecting it and reconnecting it?

After that you could try a full reset by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes.

:)). Either, some say 20, others 30.  I used to remove both battery leads and touch them together to completely deaden the car.

Try using a proper OEM DVD in the satnav and see if the problem goes away........it may well do.......

Thanks for your suggestions guys

I got round to disconnecting the battery... Left it for a good 30mins

Connected everything back up but it's still the same menu!!  :(

To make matters worse the 4x4 light is now lit up on the dash when the car is started?

Any other ideas?
