Parts on Back Order - any experience of how long this could take?

Hi Guys,

I've just tried to order a new bumper for the X5 (putting a 4.8is bumper on this time).
There was a drop in price recently of the 4.8is bumper and it seems they've now sold out and there are none available in UK, or all of Europe for that matter.

Just wondered, is it possible that BMW will stop making this part (51117146578
) ? Or do they need to reach a certain number of orders to justify manufacturing a new batch?

I'll be in Munich tomorrow so I guess I could check there, but my local UK dealer usually gets parts in from Munich in 2 days so I believe him when he says that they're out.

Does anyone have experience of how long 'on back-order' could last?

Thanks in advance.  Kev.

Realoem is not reporting production of that part as 'ended' so they must still be about.  With the car being US built they may just have to ship one from Spartanburg if all the EU spares warehouses/stores have run out.  If it's air freight then a week or so, sea freight will be three weeks at a guess.

Thanks, thats more or less what BMW Munich told me today. They there was a quality defect and they had to return all the stock.

Even though the part is made in the US, they didn't recommend me trying to source it from there as all stock would be destined for Munich to supply back orders first, so it could even take longer  :-[

Looks like mid-June delivery then. Let's just hope they don't increase the price again in the meantime (even though the order has already been  placed with BMW in UK).

Thanks for the heads up though. Cheers, Kev.

The part number is for a RHD 4.8 anyway.  What the difference is I can't say, but LHD & RHD Euro part numbers are specific and don't match the US part number.
