E70 wheels

Post by paulbryson75 » Tue Nov 16, 2010 1:17 pm

Really sorry - as am sure this has already been well discussed! Do 212 5 spoke alloys off the new E70 X fit directly onto the E53???
Have read mixed reports on google search - some claim they fit direct others state a spacer needed - if so where can i get spacers/costs?

Been offered a set of these 212s, unmarked with 'as new' run flat Michelins at a good pice and think would look good on my 02 X. Replacing her original sport alloys.

Ideas - thoughts - asap please as supposed to be going out now to 'do the deal'.................

Thanks
Paul

No replies..... hurt

More google searching showed they require a 'hub centric ring' to ensure proper fitting - the E53 X5 Has a wheel centre bore of 72.5mm or so with the E70 X5 having a bore of 74.1mm - not a big difference and it would appear some people have fitted the wheels and are quite happy with them. Loads of people on ebay supply the 'hub centric rings' = 8 quid for the 4 so have ordered these just to be 100%

The wheels themselves look very good - so bought them and think will look well on the E53, E70 Style 212 5 spokes. Came off a new X in 2008 when the owner fitted 22inchers :) , been sitting in his garage since, the Bridgestone Dueller run flats have only done a few thousand miles and are pretty much as new so all in all well chuffed.

BTW in hunting my new wheels spoke to lots of breakers and dealers = got a reply back today re an ebay add ' BREAKING FOR SPARES/PARTS ONLY 2006 BMW X5 3.0D SILVER ebay id #110608356290 from KM Autoslavage who are breaking an 06 Sport with 20" Sport alloys in excellent condition, No kerbing at all, 6-8MM tread all around. According to his mail to me - offered to me at £395 delivered which i thought was brilliant - so please someone snap up a bargain as surely these are very cheap - if he had of mailed me 2 hours earlier they would have been on their way to Ireland  !

Congrats on the new wheels, will be interested to know how you get on with the Run Flats.

Re the breaker, looks a bit too good to be true, his feedback is a bit dubious

Agreed re the feedback - in truth i hadn't even checked but to his credit he replied promptly to e-mail queries.

My new wheels are Style 212 = not snowflakes, 5 spokes. Will get pics up as soon as get them fitted (weekend).

E70 wheels

Post by g60renshaw » Thu Nov 18, 2010 10:16 pm

Look good. For those that are interested X6 wheels only require the spigot rings on the front, as for some reason they have different centre bores front to rear.

Pic for proof they fit on my E53 ;)

Do I need to put any grease?? (or what) between the spigot ring and the hub? Will they not stick together after lets say 6 months of running?

Also, what are the pros and cons of aluminum rings vs plastic ones?

Please respond, as I need to buy the rings asap...

Many thanks!

Purely on google and checking forums the plastic would seem to be the preferred choice. Didn't use any grease on the hub.

I am also inclined to try plastic as they seem to be 3 times cheaper and are not prone to weld to the the hub...are you using plastic? for how long? what size rims?

the grease question was for the metal ones...

thanks for your reply.

thank you, will order some too for my 20"...

if you do not mind can you say did you buy yours, as this would be one more positive feedback in my opinion for that particular seller (you know one cannot trust every single seller on the net these days)...

Many thanks!

I sourced my Hub Centric Rings from EBAY; from thenutsandboltshop - would appear from the packaging to be 'Rochford Tyre and Auto Centre' - the set of 4 Hub Centric Rings was £7.95 with free P&P and they arrived next day - so brilliant service and very cheap too. From their ebay listings would seem to have suitable rings for all BMW models.
