Look on
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?233-Diagnostic-Software
Also try NCS Dummy as an additional package..
Makes life a LOT easier (apparently) as it ends up in english ::)
Oh and :-
1 - Be careful and follow the instructions properly. If you have the incorrect module you can corrupt it all..
2 - Be careful and ensure you are in the correct profile and "job" at the right times...
3 - Make sure you have your car rigged up to a battery charger, or more preferrably a decent PSU, as you would be surprised how quick your battery will drain whilst playing. You DONT want the power to drop off whilst coding as that can really bugger things up
and finally
4 - Be careful!!!!!

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: NCS Expert
man! that's a minefield plus you've scared me even more!
i'll have the car on the charger and comp on the power adoptor as well no probs
but isn't there like a sequence of tasks to carry out to read a module's settings and then change? if i take a simple example for instance, like to change the DLR settings?
like this for example but that's too advanced for me so i want a simpler example which preferably says waht each step does as well..
surely htis can't be THAT complicated, or am i really that dumb lol

Re: NCS Expert
It's not that it's very complicated but if you do make an innocent mistake the law of unforeseen consequences bites you in the bum. Hence the take care comment.
Plenty of people use the application very successfully - even BMW Dealers so rumour has it, and look at some of their folks!! It really is just a case of noting what you do and keeping anyone else (kids, cats etc) away from the keyboard, and as said above - keep power on both the car and PC.

from bmtechnic
these guys come well recommended, and after my experience in getting this sw configured - chris @ bmtechnic is really really good! i cannot recommend him any more! he really knows his onions and the best part is his ever so helpful attitude!
very responsive on email, very helpful to the extent of logging into my computer online and checking out the various configs and making it work. he's had to do it twice with me, on 2 diff comps now
his package includes the cable plus the bundle of sw on a usb stick. i don't know about other's sw but these guys' is bundled along with a virtual machine and it works on win xp, vista, win 7 64 bit as well (with restrictions though i think..)
he has a featured section here
i've found wht i've been looking for as well:)

Re: NCS Expert
There is no easy way to explain it..
As Richard says there is BIG potential here of accidently miss programming it and "BSOD"ing a module..
As long as you ensure you are in the right 'job' ie coderien lessen for read only the you can check your module.
might be a good idea to take an image of all modules and saving them just in case.
Big issue for most is. not setting the profile correctly then not being able to do anything.
at end of the day you should know that the software if used incorrectly could brick your car and such you do it at your own risk..
Hence the be careful bit. A module replacement due to miss program is definitely not a warrantable item!!
