Scanner 1.4 - are they worth it ? whats a good price ?

Searched for the 'scanner 1.4' on the forums and read a couple of the later replies.

My doors do not lock when I drive off, I would also like to unlock just the drivers door (first) and I dont think my RDC is working

Would a scanner be able to solve these things ?

Are they worth buying outright, or does it make more sense to just get the things fixed by someone else ?

Had a quick search on eBay and they seem to range from £12 through £25 upto over £40, what sort of price would buy one that actually works, what would be complete, CD, correct leads ? English (as most seem to be from China)

Any thoughts ?

Yes Malc, you got my alarm to 'beep' for me.

Just not sure, once you have changed the little things you need to, dont know what else you would use it for ?

Saving yourself the inevitable £80 or so for a dealer to "plug in the diagnostic" to read the sadly inevitable fault codes that pop up in X5 ownership?
