Hi Rick,

It can be done without removing the headlight. If you undo the headlight you will be able to move the headlight forward to give some extra room. It is a little tricky. Trying using some long nose pliers to turn and remove the original bulb. You can use the same method to locate the new bulb.

I have used them before, a tad expensive compared with ebay, but are uk based and do honour their warrantee, no quibbles.

Got HIDS4U White LED kit on my E53 and they're fine so far. I didn't need to move the headlight unit at all.

E53 or E70?

The E53 version can be found here: http://www.hids4u.co.uk/bmw-angel-eye-led-upgrade/

It's a very simple job to change the lamp and does not need the headlight unit to be moved. It's a plug and play replacement. It's not a bad conversion, but be aware the cold lamp check will cause it flash a few times then you start the car. I can take pics if needed. Fine in the dark, but only OK in the bright daylight. Not sure if I would call them DRL bright though.

The E70 is a little trickier as the OEM lamp is now an H8 lamp. There is an LED upgrade on the same page as above but I've not used it so I have no idea how good (read bright) it is. The E70 and E71 are due to get a new HID source sometime in 2011, but whether it can be reto'd to the MY2011 models isn't known yet. The MY2011 3er, 5er and 7er are now getting them. Not seen a new X1or X3 to see if they have them too.

I agree with X5Sport re ease of replacement (2 mins max, including getting keys etc) and brightness, but there again the OE 10W halogen yellow light isn't great and the LEDs look so much better with the Xenons (if you have them).

Only prob I had was with HIDS4U who sent me out an E71 kit instead of the E53, but they replaced next day and supplied SAE for return, so no real grumble.

So go on and start modding :driving:

Ok, having gotten bored of the "dirty yellow" halo's, I've ordered a set of he LEDs from HIDS4U, I'm hoping fitting is a simple task?

Right, bulbs are here, now I just need the car to go with hem

No tips anyone, or is it as simple as I hope to fit them?

Really is that easy to fit. Unplug old one, twist holder out, twist new one into vacant position, reconnect and of you go. They will flash just a few times on start-up as part of the bulb check, but there'll be no bulb out warnings. LEDs need less current and have a near instantaneous (faster) 'rise time' than filament lamps, hence the flash being visible.

One of my LED replacements was a pig to fit as the connector was not as "good" as the OEM one, i.e. needed to make a small modification to get it in.

The other LED was like OEM, just clicked in.

Much nicer look though.
