Hello from Bath...

Hi - I just wanted to register and say hello and thanks for all the useful information that I've already gained from reading the posts on this site. I used the info when I made my recent purchase of a silver 55 plate X5 3.0d and so far I appear to have been lucky. I bought privately; 67k miles, used approved 18 months ago - full BWM SH with lots of money spent in the last two years. It's pretty much immaculate. Pano roof (very slight rattle, but expected!), Black Dakota, New discs & tyres on the front, new battery and alternator, refurbed wheels  - all by the main dealer. Poverty hi-fi, privacy glass, side-steps, heated seats & enhanced bluetooth. Oh, BMW dog guard & boot liner... and a full spare set of new 17's with barely used 'Grabber winter tyres included... £10.2k

Probems: I knew it needed new rears. Also, after a long motorway run it was dropping a tiny bit of coolant from the top of the expansion bottle. Could be the cap, or a worse case, cracked bottle at the neck? I didn't show again on a subsequent 15 mile commute.

Also, the Webasto seems to run for 30secs or so everytime a door is opened, so sounds like it could be the PCB?

I've come from running an old Boxster (which I need to sale) for the last 5yrs so I'm used to spending to keep a vehicle in tip-top condition... The X was my answer to needing dog-friendly transport (although, to be fair, he's not the biggest of hounds and would comfortably fit in a Golf!).

So far I am really impressed. I love the ride, the driving position, it's turn of speed for such a big lump and general feeling of quality!

Anyway, I know you like pictures (it's the only one I have so far...)

Hi guys and many thanks for the welcome. It certainly is a lot of car for the money; I was comparing the X with Discos and Toe-rags (amongst others) and the E53 just seems like fantastic value for money when I took into account what I actually wanted the car for... (i.e. I'm not using it off road, but 4WD and the option of winter tyres will be a huge bonus with some of the travelling I do for work year round).

Who wanted the dog pic?
