Hey robo, sounds like your battery or glow heaters are not working 100%. On a really cold day like recent before you fire the baby up you should get a message saying "Pre Heating" on the centre screen. If this is not happening there is defo something wrong

When I had this problem, I had to replace the glow plug control unit. The plugs themselves were fine, the car started fine in warm weather but when really cold, it was struggling more.

Does your car smoke under load by the way?

if its taking longer tgan usual cranking to start, some of your injectirs can be bad, causing fuel rail pressure loss, which results in car taking that bit longer to turn over as it has to prime the fuel line that little longer. Glow plugs, again possible, pretty much all diesels smoke a little from cold, so hard to say. if its smoking all the time then definitely not plugs as plugs only used to heat the engine @ start. once running they are off. best thing is to get it to indy.

i dont think its taking along time cranking and one very cold morning i did see message pre heating but took this to be the webasto heater coming on anyway even below freezing it starts pretty quick have had dealing with many truck diesels over the years big 14 litre v8s and doesnt seem any different cranking time approx 4-5 seconds, but till it is warm there is deffinatly a loss off power stop wait restart and its perfect all day, maybe going into limp mode? not sure but after restart really powerful any thoughts

4-5 seconds sounds very long!! i had bad injectors and noticed when my car took two to 3 seconds. loss of performance all points to injectors for me, they play up really funny!! jst get it on diagnostics, we can all speculate etc etc, the only way you are going to get it sorted is to get it to specialists

with regards to aw8's comments separately from this thread, totally agree, at the end of the day, we can all speculate and unless you are mechanically competent, you are going to end up either at dealers or your local garage etc.....so stop delaying and get it looked at is best bet!! then we can all argue and say i told you so when you post back on here with what was wrong!!! lol :)
