Help Needed - Locking Wheelnut Key

Hi guys,

I've not been on here in ages but need a bit of advice.

I was cleaning the X5 yesterday and let my 2 year old play inside the car while I did the outside. He was having the time of his life pretending to drive and climbing around, and at one point I saw him holding my locking wheelnut key.

I only remembered this morning and have had the car upside down trying to find it, it's probably still inside the car, but knowing my son he's probably seen a gap somewhere and posted it in!

Either way I now have no way of getting the wheels off if I need to, so what's my best course of action?

The wheels have the standard BMW key with the splines. IIRC if you know the number of the Key you can just order a new one from a dealership, or even get one off eBay for a few quid, which would be great...but I don't know the number of my key!

Any advice would be great guys!

Cheers

I think you can order a new one from your BMW dealer, pretty much the same as a replacement key, you will need to go in with your VIN number V5, and proof of identity. They will order you a new one.

Your VIN won't help as BMW don't record what set is on which car.

Each BMW Dealer should have a 'Master Set' of every key used on the E53 and they'll try them all against the car until they find the right one and then order it.  When it turns up (about three days) make a note of the number inside the forging so if it ever goes missing again you can order one quickly......

PS I had mine lost by a tyre fitting place, or at least they didn't put it back in the car.  Dealer had a spare and it cost me nowt..... :)
