Private Plates and Selling

Question, I am transferring private plate to X5 and selling the other car.  The V5's came through the post today, however MOT and Road Tax Disc did not.

1 - Should I change plates over now?
2 - Can I proceed with the sale? (Know the chap buying so he would not have an issue with collecting MOT and Disc later).

You can't change plates over without receiving the amended tax disc. If he is pulled over, etc they will do him for not having the correctly aligned tax disc to number plate.

Tbh I have never ever received the V5's before the mot/tax disc/number plate creation certificate. Usually the DVLA process the request and send through that info first and then send the V5's out.

When did you put through the transfer? I'd get onto the local office/DVLA to inform them that you haven't received the other stuff to be able to transfer the plate over physically.

Spoke to DVLA.

The process has changed as dvla local office no longer processes so they are sending V5's first then within 5 days MOT and Tax.  Mentioned that plates can now be transferred and police are aware of this mistmatch and thus no tickets.

As far as selling, I am told you can sell but then it's between you and buyer to hand over MOT and Tax.

Interesting to say the least. I thought the old system and order would be better as no mismatch at any point.

Fair enough though.

I have has the same recently when changing the plate on my wife's car it took 2 weeks for the V5 and retention certificate to come and another week later the tax disc and mot arrived
I checked the DVLA website and it was showing the old car back on the old plate and as I was part exchanging it in the dealer was happy to have the car and for me to send the tax disc when it arrived
It seems that the DVLA are taking longer every time I have to change a plate and I think it will only get worse when they close all the local offices
The trouble is I bought the car for my wife and the dealer was aware it had to have the plate removed and it used to take about a week but when they have the car hanging around for 3weeks waiting for the plate change they start to get a bit impatient

It is a pain for sure. I made a special trip to DVLA office thinking it would speed up the process but not anymore.
