Hello

Post by t1m130 » Mon Apr 15, 2013 10:22 am

Just a note to say hello.

After the last 20 years of company car ownership -all Audi's (bar 2 years with a 320d coupe which was a great car until it snowed!) - I am now looking to buy my own car and am pretty much decided on the X5 3.0d facelift, 04 to 05 model due to my £7k max budget.

High mileage doesn't put me off as long as it's FBMWSH as I assume that most of the higher mileage ones will have most of the teething issues sorted - bushes, CV's, electrics etc?

I have to say what an excellent forum this is and the buying guide will be invaluable when deciding what to look out for - 'll keep you posted on how I get on  :)

Hello and  :hi:

It's not necessarily a good assumption that everything will have been done as that may even be the reason for it being on the market.  Dealers have proved to be uncaring and unscrupulous with work that should have been done being ignored.  Even AUC cars have been found to be in a shocking state from certain suppliers.

The Buyers Guide gives you pretty much everything, and as long as you go in with no illusions about 'dealer honesty' you'll be fine.  Even then, check everything......twice.

Good luck with the search and feel free to ask questions if you need help etc.

:hi: from me too. It doesn't matter what car your looking at, if it's done 100k+ miles then great care needs to be taken. Yes £6/7k for a X5 sounds great value. But they have the potential to hit you hard in the wallet. Even routine maintance items like tyres/oil can cost more than you would at first expect.

As stated above, read the buyers guide and don't be afraid to ask questions. Good luck in your search.  :)

Thanks everyone and sorry for the late response - just got the hang if this tapatalk thing!

After much searching, i finally found a 76k mile 04 one owner from new X5 3.0i with FBMWSH which i absolutely love!

No issues found so far and had my local indy check her out and was told she was a peach and needed nothing :)

I've had the indy change the auto box oil and filter as a precaution and she rides sweet as if she was new.

Did a lot of reading posts in the forum about what to look for and it saved me from buying some of the dogs out there so many thanks for everyones advice and input.
