Recall

Post by reading1800 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:39 am

Had a phone call from the dealer who sold me the car to say a recall has been issued on my car for brake check, anyone else had that? Can't see anything online that explains the exact issue.

Never heard of a dealer making direct contact with a customer regarding a recall. Recalls take an age to come through after the issue is first raised and then confirmed by a manufacturer. They then contact VOSA to establish owners details to contact and arrange the recall. This is done by BMW GB and not direct by the dealers so that BMW can report back to VOSA.

I would also note that dealers carry out checks on vehicles that go through the work shop for any outstanding upgrades or recalls. This is done when in for service or a vehicle that is AUC'd. Anything that requires attension is then carried out and stamped up on the back of the job card.

Something sounds odd about this I have to say.

Phoned the dealer back and the defect code is 0034080200, check vacuum lines and brake servo and replace as necessary.

thought of vosa but nothing there, odd  but told to have it checked sooner rather than later.

Interesting. Clearly best to sort asap but do wonder why this wasn't picked up before delivery? how long have you had the vehicle?

Three months now but its been into a more local dealer twice since for warranty work so assume a recent recall.

Mine was an AUC car but they didn't do one of the recalls (the security update) as part of the AUC prep.

My local dealer did that when I took it in for the steering bolt one. That said, I only knew of that one thanks to this site!

Anyone else had the brake one?

As far as I'm aware the security update has not been treated as a recall. It's a. 'Enhancement' and as such is carried out as and when a vehicle goes in for a service or other workshop related item.

When did you get your 'X' XBox?

My 4.6is came on Kumho's - never had them before but have had Falkens and Michelins and Pirellis and Dunlops on RWD BMW's over the years.

I noticed the difference only in snow on the RWD cars which performed well on Dunlops but not Falkens. On the 4WD X5 in the snow the Kumho's were brilliant, but I would expect that from a 4WD 4x4 anyway. Normal driving the Kumho's are very good. Safety concerns - I have none. Would a premium brand be better on wet track - yes, of course but I will never find myself there so for a 4WD 4x4 on the 'road', I can't say that I would happily pay double for a premium tyre.

I would however get a GOOD set of part worns (5mm + all over) in premium before buying new budget. If you know what you are looking for and inspect in person before purchase this works out well. I do low miles so tyres always last me absolutely ages.
