4.6IS On Board Lap Of Nürburgring

Hey Guys,
As some of you probably know I took my car round "The Ring" last September.
Today I finally got round to uploading a video on Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq-qKUxZoc4
This was my first ever track day and when watching it back I find parts in the video where I wish I kept the throttle down instead of letting off. This could be down to me not knowing the track I suppose but its such a long track.
Does anyone have a experience of The Ring or track experience in general. Can you give me any tips/advice about my driving. Did I take the right lines etc?
Thanks
James

Loving the vid!
What tyres did you have on? Also i heard a few beeps from the OBC?
I don't know much about the ring, but i agree a few times you could have either kept on the throttle or adavnced the throttle earlier. Nevertheless, i am impressed

Thanks mate
I had the standard Michelin Diamaris tyres.
I set the OBC to beep when I got to 75 so when watching it back I could get a rough idea of how fast I was going.
I wasn't anywhere near the fastest thing there but I enjoyed it and will definitely being a making another trip out there once I get it LPGed next month.

Awesome! The car sounds superb and looked like sooo much fun. Out of interest, were you changing gears manually or did you just leave it in auto?

Thanks Don
I left it in Auto but Sport mode. I found the gear changes sluggish so I used the kick down a hell of lot which I wasn't sure if it would cause excessive wear to the box.
When I go back I'm thinking maybe I should try manual tiptronic to see if that's faster?.....

Thanks Jaynana
I know I didn't want to get overtaken by a Swift!!! But I found myself feeling intimidated and pressured when people were behind me so I moved to right each time and let off to let them go. I did nearly rear end the swift at one point though getting carried away.
I thought I don't know the track so I will calm down as learnt from my first lap
as you can see by my avatar that was the lap before this one taken by a pro photographer mid way through me spinning it out and missing the barrier by inches... I will upload that video at some point as that may be more entertaining haha.

Thanks Reusch. Yeah towards the last few corners. I did find that on another lap I had a Sprinter van pull right in front of me on that corner and totally killed my speed.
Not sure if that was a VR6 golf or not as it wasn't that slow actually!

Ha that's the lap before Graeme
I need to crop that and upload that clip and edit in the mid action shots from the professional photographer into it for the full effect too. I'll do that at some point.

Good effort there James
for only your second lap. A trip in one of the 'Ring' taxis is always worth it and if you have a PS3 or similar a go on a good racing game is a very good tool to learn a circuit.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks Chompers glad I good be of entertainment!
Those ring taxis looked awesome espically if you could get a ride with Sabine
I left there completing 4 laps in total. I can say even on the fourth lap it was still like a new track to me I couldn't remember any of it.
Funny enough someone else suggested that to me so I got Grand Turismo 5 for Xmas and have been playing it on there. For a game the geographical part of it is very realistic but I still find it nothing like the real thing in terms of which speed to take corners at etc.
This year I'm tempted to get a tow bar fitted and borrow a bike trailer and maybe take my bike out there too but I'm not sure I would feel safe with the crazy locals flying round there they don't seem to care about bikes from what I've seen.

Yes a ride
on :-[ with Sabine would be great.
How much fuel did you use for those 4 laps
I would also guess that the breaks/break fluid would be close to giving up if too many more laps had been done.
know what you mean about speed on a game and in real life there is also the option to hit the kitty litter of armco and keep diring as if nothing had happened, no chance in real life :'(
Going by the video it looks like the gearbox was your biggest enemy, very hard to get smooth entry/exit in the corners
