How Do You Recharge A Dead Key?

Hi all,

Just wondered how you charge a dead key? One of Mrs Chompers keys is completely flat and won't even stay in the dash.

Car is a e93 but the key is the same design as e7x models and is non CA.

Thanks in advance.

Can you?

I'd take it back to dealer to sort

Thought they charged when in the socket.

I was told by the local dealer that the CA requires a second battery.  So one can be charged by placing the key in the ignition, the other is not rechargeable. This is assuming the Audi has an ignition slot.  The F10 doesn't, and was therefore not rechargeable.

Cheers guys. Dealer is ordering a new 'remote' section as the key would not even hold in the slot. Probably never used as it was a demo car.

Normal remote keys do charge via the slot, have to say never had a problem with any of the previous cars but there you go  ::)

With regard to CA equipped cars - the remotes are different. The battery is not rechargeable and if the battery dies then it can/needs to be replaced. Not sure if its the same on an Audi but would take a guess that it is.

what is CA?

normal key charges in teh key hole by way of an induced current in the ring around the keyhole.

Comfort access, allows the keys to stay in your pocket you open the car by touching a door handle or starting the car by pushing the start/stop button without the key in the ignition.
