Seat swap uestion

The horrible grey interior in my x5 was badly worn so today i bought a virtually new set of black leather front seats, rear seats and all 4 doorcards. My old grey set had full heated seats. This new set the fronts are heated but back seats arent.
Can the heating element be swapped over from old to new back seats or is it not worth the hassle? Ill swap if its easyish job but not too fussed if its too much work for too litttle gain (rarely take passengers in back anyway).

Also, when i come to fit the fronts, is it possible to leave the base bolted in car and just unbolt the seat from the frame to save messing about with the main bolts?

If it isn't possible you can get a retrofit kit that a member on here fitted to their rear seats. As you already have the switches and relays in place it would be an easy option. But if your not that bothered it probably is not worth the hassle.

I've done the seat swap (see my 'How-to'.  Changing the front seats is very easy - only 5 nuts/bolts to remove - I don't think you can easily leave the frame in place as you ask.
Regarding the rear heating elements - I've not actually seen the seat covers removed from the bolsters so I can't advise - my impression is that the elements are fairly well integrated with the cover and removing would be difficult.  Might be worth consulting an upholsterer though as (in my eyes) heated rear seats is a very desirable feature.
Good luck with this - would be interested to hear how you get on.

Yes you can swap the rear elements over BUT I'd say its simpler to just swap the leather covers over  ;) you'll have to remove them anyway off both rear bases, etc.

As for the fronts, 4 bolts hold the seat down in place and its very straight forward.

I can see the cover comes off the bit you sit on but do they come off the back parts? looks like its non removeable?

They do but without having a good look can't be 100% sure how. I had all mine redone nearly 2 years ago now.
