Hi, i have just put 3 coats of Halfords finest plastic primer onto my "used to be chrome" grille surrounds. Now it says allow at least 24hrs to dry, but me being me (i like to crack on) was wondering if putting them into the domestic oven could bring this time down and allow me to paint them this afternoon, as im back at work 2moro, so would like to get the job done. My electric oven seems to have a minimum setting of 60'c. Does this sound like a good idea or a seriously stupid one?

I really don't think that's a good idea.  I would be concerned about fumes building up in the oven/house, as well as affecting the durability of the paint.

Certain paints are designed to be baked on ie, two pack. Others ie rattle can paint are designed to air dry. It may cause the paint to dull or glaze crack if it is subject to excess temperatures.
If it goes wrong you will be back at worse than square one, as you will probably have to remove the affected paint and then start again. Or things may work out ok.

Thanks Don, i will take that advice and hold off unless reliably informed otherwise.
I did check and it seems ABS has a melting point of 105'c and was concerned that 60'c is still a bit too high for the paint. A quick search show paint shop oven temps being quoted as low as 28 and as high as 80. Which is quite a spread.
Anyway, if you dont know, its always worth an ask,even if you dont always get the answer you want!

The acrylic matt black top coat i used was touch dry in 10mins,and dried fully in 30mins (according to the can) so i got up early and then popped the finished articles back in this morning. Happy with the look, but shes not, ahh well, such is life!
Enjoyed doing it though, felt just like Ed China with my rattle can!
